- The power is a near perfect match for my Klipsch RP series speakers. Tons of features, you just can't go wrong here.
- I'm very impressed so far. It sounds great on both music and movies, upgrades the sound of MP3 files, and looks a lot more expemsive than it is.
- The ability to fine tune speaker balance, volume, and tone/sound fields on each input is a huge PLUS for me
- Being able to utilize the Sub Woofer while in Pure Direct mode is another HUGE plus and shows that Marantz is still rooted in Hi-Fi
- It runs very hot. I also have an Onkyo 656 which doesnt run anywhere near these temps. It's hot enough that I wouldnt put it in my entertainment unit, instead sat it on top for best ventilation.
- Can’t use both rear surrounds and up-firing/ceiling speakers simultaneously; limited to 5.1.2 or 7.1 configurations, no 7.1.2 with this model
- Outstanding sound and flexibility to connect all sorts of e-devices. I have a DVR/VCR player, flat screen TV, turntable, cable box, and web crawler tv box all hooked through this. I have 7 speakers although it is capable of 9.
- Easy to use and setup. Enjoy surround sound for your tv shows, movies and music! Clean bass without just a bunch of boom and distortion.
- Cinema DSP and enhanced surround make it even better. A lot of fun. You will never use your tv speakers again.
- Very nice receiver. So far have 7.1 hooked up and it sounds awesome.
- The only major difference between this & the units costing twice is the output. You go right down the line on the Yamaha website & per channel wattage is the responsible for price.
- Set up is easy and the self calibration works well.
- Features a game mode to disable adding input lag
- Good 1080p upscaler, great for legacy sources like Wii connected over component video
- Supports DTS:X and Dolby Atmos
- Spotify Connect is a convenient feature and normally works
- The audessy procedure is actually quite painful because it takes so long for it to go through all the steps.
- The operating manual is not particularly user-friendly.
- The only negative I can site is that some of the options are not on screen, they appear only in the little display.
- I'm also really impressed with the auto calibration feature, I was quite skeptical but it does a good job of setting equalizer distance & gain.
- The Yamaha smartphone app is also a winner with a ton of controllability at you fingertips.
- A wired mic is included for doing the distance and time correction but there is also an option to do with manual adjustments as well. The on tv screen menus are pretty easy to navigate and are straight forwarded enough.
- Only dislike is the mediocre remote (not a learning remote), but easy to work around using their Android app.
- Only down thing is the paperless manual
- Being able to wireless-ly play music from my iPhone, iPad or laptop is very handy... especially for parties or when having some company over
- 8 HDMI inputs and two HDMI outputs, all supporting the latest HDMI standards
- One thing I noticed and need to work on is the WiFi, seemed to take long to find my cable modem so being impatient I just ran a lan cable.
- No power outlets on the back for plugging in a sub to automatically turn off
- The wifi is only single band (2.4ghz) but if Ethernet is used, all the features such as airplay, Spotify & net radio work perfectly.
- The amount of connections on this thing is great, there is plenty of HDMI ins and outs for MOST all applications and legacy if thats your thing.
- The banana plug inserts are soo incredibly handy, it makes hooking things up a million times easier.
- Not only is the sound realy good (important ;-) , as an IT person I am amazed by the connectivity with my other network based devices. My iPad, iPhone, my network server with all my MP3's (I run Plex at that end) and the intergration with Spotify... everything works as a dream.
