- Was averaging about 6 to 7 miles with the antenna that came with the BaoFeng UV-5R radio.
- Great thing about the Baofeng as opposed to ones like the Midland, is that all frequencies from 136-174 and 400-480 are fully programmable.
- Reception and transmitting are both good with the stock antenna.
- Solid radio. construction is very good. reception is great with an aftermarket 14.5 inch antenna.
- Great coverage area. Crisp and clear TX and RX.
- Amazing range! I drove home from a job site about 2 miles away in a very densely populated area and my guy radioed me and it worked clear as can be.
- t has more features than the Motorola and I have full Rx/Tx access on the 136-174MHz and 400-520MHz frequency ranges. That includes the business frequencies....so I set my first 32 channels to the business frequencies I generally use in addition to assigning tones (Rx/Tx CTCS, DCS, etc.).
- As expected in this price range. The radio feels sturdy and looks serious apart from the LED on top which is of no use at all.
- I will be getting an FCC license so that I can register it with some local relay stations and extend the range to about 50 miles.
- Great range even when on low power. I can talk to my guys in the basement of a high-rise when I'm on the 11th-12th floor and hear them clear as a bell.
- Nice to have the flashlight and the key and display backlight. Overall great radio for the price.
- The BaoFeng radio is solid, small, comfortable to use, has cool voice menu operation, supports FM Broadcast frequencies.
- Astonishing performance for the money. Simple to program and simple to use.
- Had no trouble programming the channels I needed without the USB cord or software.
- The radio is extremely easy to program with CHIRP software.
- What seems difficult and why it 5 stars is the user interface on screen for a simple task like using a repeater is daunting at best.
- Radio came with very small defect on the liquid crystal screen. But it has performed flawlessly and once you know what frequency you want to use its a simple matter of entering it with numerical jeypad.. Just like dialing a phone
- With a minimal screen and a small form factor that provides little space for the keys beyond the numbers and a couple of other buttons, it is tedious to program more than a couple of repeaters.
- The screen on my UV-82HP is already scratched. I also noticed small stuff such as dirt and lint can get in between the screen and the plastic over the screen.
- The LCD screen window is made out of soft plastic and scratches easily
- Another plus is the battery life, so far I am on the initial charge and I still have 3 out of 4 bars after 5 days of fairly heavy use.
- The unit itself has felt solid and performed well, with the stock battery offering days of monitoring and learning worth of charge.
- It feels well made, the battery life is fantastic.
- Battery is inasanely good and will go all day with normal usage on a single charge.
- The construction is solid and the battery life is excellent in standby and about 4-8 hours with normal use.
- Battery life has been great lasting me for days. Mostly listening with a few transmissions.
- The battery life is amazing. I can use this thing for 12 hours straight and the battery barley drops any.
- Battery life is good so far. I've never really run it totally dead, so I can't swear it's better, but it seems to be good.
- I had problems putting it in the charging base until I realized what was going on. The short answer is the Charger base is designed to charge a loose battery or the handset.
- The battery fit is not good, have to use a small tool to help get it started when removing it. General functionality is pretty good.
