Handle All Tasks With Ease
Chromebooks aren't known for having high-end hardware. Although there are a few expensive options out there that are on the higher-end, the real strength of a Chromebook is allowing for people to easily take care of simple tasks on lower-end machines. With the Acer Chromebook 715, though, you are actually getting much more than low-end hardware. This system is powered by an 8th generation Intel Core i3-8130U processor running at 2.2 GHz - 3.4 GHz. Although this is far from a high-end processor, it is still a very powerful processor with much better performance than you will find in most other Chomebooks. Complementing this powerful processor is 4 GB of RAM, which is more than sufficient for working on multiple tasks at once.
Having the more powerful hardware in this system gives it a few capabilities that most other lower-powered Chromebooks simply can't do. For instance, those who need to work on higher-end data processing, such as working on large spreadsheets, will find this system easily up to the task while lower-end models will probably struggle with it. In addition, watching 4K ultra HD quality video output to a separate TV or monitor can also be done with ease, another tasks that lower-end systems simply aren't capable of doing, at least without performance issues.
Great for Working With Numbers
Plenty of other features are found on this powerful Chromebook that help make it quite useful for both work and home. One of the great features of this model is the full numerical keypad, a feature not commonly found on any portable system. This allows those who work heavily with numbers to easily crunch away at them without having to struggle with the input. On top of that, the trackpad is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, providing an extremely smooth surface for manipulating the mouse cursor effortlessly. Simply put, you'll find the input methods of this Chromebook a joy to use.
The features don't stop there, though. This system includes a hefty 128 GB of internal storage, giving you plenty of local space for storing large files. In fact, those with simple needs will probably never run out of storage here. For those with heavier-duty needs, though, the internal storage can be expanded by a number of ways, either through the use of an SD card or through external storage connected via one of the USB 3.1 ports. Although this system uses Type-C ports, there is also a Type-A port for connecting an older device. All told, those who need or want a Chromebook that is able to handle more than just the bare essential tasks will find this system to be quite a capable device.

The Whole Package
The Acer Spin 11 has no problems spinning right round, not unlike the fabled record. Using the 360-degree hinge, this device lets you switch between tablet, tent, stand, and laptop modes, accommodating creative professionals. Of course, there are countless Chromebooks out there that come equipped with dual-torque hinges. But these 'books do not also come supplied with a protective sleeve and a Wacom stylus pen. With the pen's fast and accurate control mimicking a natural writing experience, the Wacom® tech pen ensures unsurpassed usability. You'll be able to draw, doodle, write, sign documents, there's very little that this pen will not let you do. In the same vein, the 10-point touchscreen will enable surfing, organizing, swiping, and editing without even touching the touchpad. While the protective sleeve will not help with these tasks, the sleeve will help with transportation, protecting the screen on the road.
Considering that this product costs less than $400, the protective sleeve and the Wacom stylus pen are an excellent addition to the package, but they're not what sells this package, not quite. Before they can contribute, what sells this package is the IPS display. Not unlike most IPS panels, this display keeps the colors accurate, the contrast ratio high (meaning that the blacks are deep and the whites are bright), and the viewing angle wide, 178 degrees wide, to be more precise. Plus, measuring 11.6 inches, the screen's 1366 x 768p native resolution is an excellent fit, making the picture sharp and detailed.
Covering Unitaskers and Multitaskers
The hardware on budget Chromebook is always mediocre at best, so while there's nothing necessarily disappointing about the Intel® Celeron® N3350 processor, there's also nothing interesting about it. But the same cannot be said about the embedded webcam. First, the 'cam stretches the viewing angle 88 degrees, facilitating Google Hangouts. Second, the camera supports HDR imaging, improving face-to-face chats as well as video conferences.
Not quite as interesting as the webcam, the WiFi module is also pretty impressive, supporting the 802.11ac protocol and 2x2 MIMO so that you can remain unplugged and connected to the Internet even when the connection is shoddy. Last but not quite least, the model's battery life reaches 10 hours, meaning that, even with heavy use, the battery should give you at least 7-8 hours before dying out.
In short, the Acer Spin 11 is aimed at unitaskers and multitaskers alike.

Ultra Portable Chromebook
One of the most important aspects of any laptop is how long it is able to run on a full charge of the battery before it needs to be plugged into a power outlet. After all, laptops just aren't of much use if they won't last long on battery power. Unfortunately, many of the Chromebooks that one can find fall well short of meeting the needs of those who need their laptop to last a full day before needing to be recharged. That is, most but not all, as is evidenced by the Acer Chromebook Spin 311. This Chromebook packs a hefty battery that gives this unit enough juice to last not only a full working day, but also well beyond that, thanks to its ability to run for up to 15 hours on a single charge. And no worries about having to wait forever for it to recharge, as its full charging time is no more than 3 hours max.
Having a hefty battery doesn't mean this unit is heavy, though. Far from it, in fact, as this model is easily the lightest one on our list, coming in at just 2.3 lbs. It's low weight and compact form factor make it extremely portable, so carrying it around with you in a backpack won't be burdensome at all. In fact, you'll probably not even notice its weight, so those who are looking for an ultra-portable option will definitely find this model to their liking.
Perfect For Anyone
The portability and battery life of any laptop are not the only concerns that most people will have, even if they are quite important. The hardware under the hood is important, too, as any laptop needs to be powerful enough to handle all of a user's tasks. Thankfully, this model isn't really missing much in that regard. The system is powered by a dual-core Intel Celeron N4020 processor that isn't the most powerful one to be found, but it is powerful enough to handle most tasks with ease. The 4 GB of RAM gives you plenty of memory for being able to use multiple browser windows without causing the computer to slow to a crawl, and the 32 GB of internal storage is plenty enough for handling your local files.
Of course, one of the biggest advantages of any Chromebook is being able to store all of your data in the cloud, and this model gives you that ability just as well as any other Chromebook, thanks to the 100GB of cloud storage offered by Google. This model should be able to handle most any task with ease, although users should note that the quality of the webcam is a bit poor, so those who require high-quality video from their webcam may need to find another model. Having said that, for most anyone else this Chromebook should easily meet their needs while also being ultra-portable.

Handle Any Task Quickly
Right off the bat, most people don't think of Chromebooks as being speed demons, and for good reason. These systems are generally made to be cheap and easy to use, but having high-end hardware seems to be a bit of a stretch for any Chromebook. Of course, you don't need high-end hardware in order to handle all of your tasks quickly and efficiently, as you can see with the Acer Chromebook 315. This laptop, despite using lower-end hardware and coming in at a budget price, is able to handle any tasks you throw at it with a minimum of fuss, letting you concentrate on your work rather than having to fight with the system.
As we already stated, the hardware this Chromebook is packing is far from the state of the art. The system is powered by a dual-core Intel Celeron N4000 processor running at up to 2.6 GHz, which is definitely not a high-end laptop processor Don't let this fact fool you, though, as any task can be performed lightning-quick on this system. Aided by 4 GB of LPDDR4 Memory and 32GB eMMC storage, this system is highly responsive and is plenty fast for most basic tasks, including web browsing, working with documents of any type, or handling email. In short, this system won't slow you down while you work.
No Storage Issues
The 32 GB of built-in eMMC storage may not seem to be a lot. In fact, this storage amount is pretty average for a Chromebook. While this does seem to be a minimal amount of storage, don't forget that with the Google eco-system you get up to 100 GB of online storage for storing all of your documents, which should be plenty for any person using a Chromebook. Furthermore, those who need to add more local storage space will be pleased to learn that this system includes a microSD card reader, so you can greatly increase the amount of local storage space just by adding a high capacity SD card.
As for the physical hardware of this Chromebook, there isn't much to be disappointed about. This system sports a 15.6-inch widescreen IPS LED-backlit touch display, which is on the large side when compared to many other Chromebook systems. In fact, this is one of the nicer displays that we've seen on a Chromebook, especially considering that this is far from a high-end machine. If there is anything to be disappointed about here, it would be the fact that this system is a bit on a heavy side, coming in at a rather heft 5.5 lbs, but this shouldn't be an issue for anyone who doesn't need an ultra-portable laptop. All things considered, despite the low-end hardware, this is one of the nicer Acer Chromebooks that you can buy.

Plenty of Local Storage
One of the biggest areas in which almost any Chromebook will come short is in local storage. Most Chromebook models come with only a minuscule amount of internal storage, which is often not enough to store all of the files that a user may need locally. Yes, Chromebooks are meant to work with data stored in the cloud, but there are certainly times when a user needs those files right on their computer. If you find yourself with this conundrum with most other Chromebooks, then you'll want to take a look at the Acer Chromebook 314. This model comes with 64 GB of internal storage space, which is much more than most other affordable Chromebook models will include.
Of course, even 64 GB may not meet everyone's needs in this day and age. If this is the case for you, not to worry! This model includes plenty of other storage options, ranging from its four USB ports that allow for connecting all manner of fast external storage devices, to its built-in microSD card reader, which allows you to expand the internal storage to a much higher amount. Simply put, users who require access to locally stored files will find that this Chromebook will meet their needs. No more having to wait ages for cloud-based files to download just to work on them.
High Quality Video Conferencing
Many users require their laptops to be serviceable for video conferencing needs, but unfortunately, many Chromebook models tend to skimp on their built-in webcams. Not so here, though. This model's webcam gives you HD-quality video with a resolution of 1280 x 720, providing a crisp, clear video image to your friends or colleagues. What's more, the webcam also includes Super High Dynamic Range (SHDR) technology, which ensures high color accuracy as well as an overall excellent video image. To put it in layman's terms, this webcam will definitely make you the star of any show.
The webcam isn't the only good hardware that this model includes. The built-in speakers are surprisingly good, giving you crystal clear audio with a loud enough volume for anyone to hear. No more tinny, weak audio coming from your Chromebook! The rest of the system is also plenty powerful for handling all of your tasks, and even the battery life is excellent, giving you up to 12.5 hours on a full charge. The exterior also looks nice, but it should be noted that it does tend to be a fingerprint magnet, so you may want to keep a cloth handy to wipe it down once you've handled the system. All told, this excellent Chromebook from Acer is one of the best models on our list.

What Is an Acer Chromebook?
Acer is a renowned manufacturer of computers, and is especially well-known for making high-quality portable devices, including laptops and tablets. In the last few years, they have also become very well known for making 2-in-1 devices, which are typically a combination of a laptop and tablet, and which allow functionality that is optimized for both modes. Acer systems are generally known for their quality, and can often be found almost anywhere that computers and portable devices are sold.
Chromebooks are typically laptops that are made especially to run Chrome OS by Google, an operating system that is different than Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X, and which uses Google's Chrome web browser as its main interface. Chrome OS is made specifically for devices that are meant to work mainly while connected to the Internet, and often have limited functionality compared to Windows or Mac OS X. However, the functionality they do have makes them very simple to use, and they excel in use with Internet applications, such as browsing the web, watching YouTube videos, and many other functions that occur online. Chromebooks are also typically less expensive than other full-fledged laptops while retaining excellent performance for their intended tasks.
If you are looking for a laptop bag to carry your new Acer Chromebook in, then take a look at our reviews of five of the best laptop bags.
What Features to Compare
Chromebooks tend to focus on different aspects than a typical standard laptop. They are made specifically for portability, battery life, and ease of use, whereas the standard laptop focuses more on a combination of these aspects combined with overall power. This tends to make Chromebooks a bit less powerful than a standard laptop, with the trade-off of increased battery life and portability. Since Chromebooks aren't made for high powered applications and uses, the list of characteristics that you want to look for will differ from those of a typical laptop. Below are the most common characteristics that you will want to look for in a new Acer Chromebook.
Dimensions
Chromebooks, by and large, will have dimensions on par with those of smaller laptops. These dimensions will largely be due to screen size, which will greatly affect the width of the device. Whichever size Chromebook you get will depend entirely on your tastes. However, if you wish to carry your Chromebook in a backpack or laptop bag, then you will want to make sure that the dimensions of your Chromebook do not exceed those of the carrying capacity of your bag.
Weight
As Chromebooks are focused heavily on being portable, you will want one that is easier to carry, and will therefore want to find one that weighs very little. Most Chromebooks are quite lightweight, and finding one that is light enough to make it highly portable should not be difficult at all.
Screen Size and Resolution
The size of the screen of your new Chromebook is something that will come down to personal preference. However, those who want a sharp, highly detailed screen will want to make sure that the Chromebook they purchase has a high-resolution display. Many Chromebooks come equipped with an HD display, but some cheaper models may have a lower resolution, so make sure that the screen size and resolution are both to your tastes before buying one.
Hardware Specifications
Most Chromebooks are made to be highly portable, which tends to mean that they have lower hardware specifications than a typical laptop. Most of them use lower end hardware inside, which means they won't be a powerhouse. However, the hardware specs of different models can certainly vary. The hardware specs that you want to look at are memory (RAM), storage capacity, and processor type and speed. Finding one with more memory, a high storage capacity, and a faster processor will ensure that even the most demanding tasks that you run on it will work smoothly.
Ports
As with any laptop, the included ports on the device will go a long way towards showing what all you can do with the device. The ones to look for are USB ports for connecting devices to the system, HDMI for video output to a TV or monitor, a headphone jack for audio output to headphones or speakers, and even an SD card slot for local file transfers and increased storage capacity. The types of ports included on different Chromebooks can vary wildly, so you will want to make sure that the model you purchase has all of the ports that you need.
Did you know?
Best Uses for a Chromebook
If you have never used a Chromebook before, there are a few things that you should know about them before you purchase one. The primary thing to understand is that a Chromebook is not the same as a standard laptop that runs Windows or Mac OS X. Instead. Chromebooks use Google's Chrome OS, a simple, web-based operating system that is made specifically for Chromebooks. While the main interface in Chrome OS will appear somewhat similar to that of Windows or Mac OS X, there are some key differences. The key thing to remember is that Chrome OS is meant primarily for "light" tasks, such as web browsing, email, entertainment, and light productivity.
Chrome OS does not let you install any program that you wish like other operating systems do. Instead. it uses Google Chrome as its main interface, meaning that almost all tasks that are done on it are accomplished through the Internet. While you can't just install any program, including most popular applications and games, you can install apps through the Chrome Web Store, which is accessible through Chrome. Furthermore, Google also recently added in support for Android apps through the Google Play Store on select Acer Chromebooks, which gives you access to a large number of Android apps. There is plenty that you can do with Chrome OS, but it is best to be aware of the limitations of it before you purchase a Chromebook. Regardless, below are some of the most common uses for an Acer Chromebook.
- Web Browsing - As Google Chrome is the most popular web browser in use, it should come as no surprise that it is included on Chrome OS. In fact, the web browser actually powers the operating system, meaning that anything that you interact with on the computer is done through some iteration of Chrome. As the operating system is designed around Chrome, you can expect a very pleasant web browsing experience, with almost seamless integration through all other functions of the Chromebook.
- Email - Just as Google Chrome is the world's most popular web browser, Google's Gmail is the most popular webmail service. Gmail is completely integrated into Chrome OS, giving you an easy way to send and receive email without the need to open and close a specific email application.
- Videos - One of the most popular functions of any computer is their ability to play all kinds of videos. The same is true for a Chromebook, which gives you easy access to Youtube as well as numerous other online video streaming services. If you use a paid streaming service such as Netflix, then fear not - you have access to it through Chrome OS just as you do through any other computer or media device. There is even support for watching movies offline that you have previously downloaded into your system. Needless to say, there is no shortage of ways of watching movies or streaming video on your new Chromebook.
- Productivity - Although Chromebooks do not come with Microsoft Office installed, you can actually use an online version of Microsoft Office through Chrome OS. If you don't need the full Microsoft Office experience, however, you can just as easily use Google Docs to write your term paper, or Google Sheets to work with your spreadsheet from the office.
- Games - Although Chrome OS is not known as a great system for hardcore gamers, there are plenty of games, both free and paid, available through both the Chrome Web Store and the Google Play Store.
If you are needing more information regarding the best uses for your Chromebook, this article can tell you all you need to know before purchasing your brand new Acer Chromebook.
