It Takes Three to Tango

Razer Naga is a name that's virtually synonymous with MMO mice and the latest iteration of this line doesn't fail to live up to its legacy. Naga was one of the very first mice to give you a boatload of programmable buttons next to your thumb. These days, you wouldn't be able to impress anybody with that. But this is Razer we're talking about, impressing the gaming crowd is kind of what they do, one way or the other.

The biggest difference between this model and the bulk of its competition lies with 3 interchangeable side plates. Want the usual 12-button configuration that so many people have fallen in love with over the past years? Go right ahead. Don't need as many buttons? That's fine as well, simply replace the former for a plate that gives you a 7-button layout in a circular design. Don't care for MMOs and prefer to spend your time in Fortnite and League of Legends? Not a problem. Ditch those configurations for the classic 2-button configuration that is perfect for MOBAs.

Other than that, there isn't that much that separates this modular mouse from the previous Naga installments. You get the usual enhanced right-handed form factor. The company's trademark 5G optical sensor that delivers up to 16000 dpi and 50 G acceleration.

Not Failing to Deliver Once Again

As much as gaming is about specs though, there are many reasons why gaming equipment always looks the part too. Hardcore gamers love to stand out from the casual crowd almost as much as they love beating these casual players online. The experts at Razer understand that, the company's basically synonymous with bright, flashy products that you cannot mistake from different brands. Not unlike the model's predecessor, this mouse looks awesome, fat and beefy yet, at the same time, smooth and polished, with nuanced yet, again, flashy cosmetics making the device visually expressive and unique.

Besides, thanks to the interchangeable layout that we've addressed before, you can change the model's entire aesthetic, switching between the 24-button layout that's packed, the 7-button circular layout that's different even from most MMO mice, and the clean layout with two buttons and rubberized side grips that we've seen many times before and that allow you to endure the longest gaming sessions without experiencing any thumb discomfort.

Setting the model's construction aside, this is Razer we're talking about, which means that the device is not complete without Razer Chroma™ lighting that's adopting 16.8 million customizable color options, letting you choose between different pre-set profiles but also customize them however you see fit.

Long story short, the Razer Naga Trinity doesn't really require much advertisement. The already popular line got an upgrade and this one does not fail to deliver. Is it the best MMO mouse? Well, it might very well be. And if it isn't, it is definitely the most versatile gaming mouse on this list.

What customers say about this product

Key Specs(4.4)

The DPI speeds are solid, and the laser reads very well on any surface.

Features(4.8)

Switching panels doesn't reset your key bindings. (Referring to 6 volt to 12 slot buttons). Quick access to these buttons allow for easier game for you.

Size & Weight(4.6)

Comfortable, medium light weight, and fits your hand. This is also a ride handed mouse, and not for left handed users.

Connection(4.5)

The cord is braided, and that has its perks as well. (Less wire shorts, less tangles, more quality vs ugly plastic).

Wireless Gaming

The Logitech G603 is the only wireless mouse we've added to this list and that's no small feat considering that cordless peripherals and gaming peripherals are usually two very separate groups. That being said, this is a gaming mouse through and through. To start with, the model's gaming disposition stems from the 12,000 DPI HERO sensor that will be able to register the most minute movements and translates them into in-game actions with accuracy and precision. To add more, 12K DPI is that sweet spot that's enough to satisfy demanding gamers but not too much to make the number sound pointless like those 16K DPI mice that no one uses (at max DPI) anyway.

Of course, with wireless mice, there's always the latency issue, hence why most gamers stick to corded peripherals since even the slightest lag can make the biggest difference. There's no lag here though. Featuring LIGHTSPEED wireless tech, the mouse reduces the response time to 1ms, meaning that even the most hardcore gamers will not be able to tell the difference between this device and its wired peers. Sure, with that response time, the model chews through batteries pretty fast, forcing you to replace them every 500 hours, which's not bad but not great too.

What's great is the switch on the model's bottom next to the sensor that lets you choose between low- and high-energy modes, with the former increasing the latency to 8ms (noticeable when playing RTS and fast-paced shooters but not really noticeable when playing most games and browsing). Using the low-energy mode, the mouse takes 18 months to burn through two AA batteries.

Change the Weight

We can easily get behind the model's ergonomically-designed, lightweight, contoured body, with its clean, streamlined profile. The only issue here is that the coating is relatively slippery, so playing with sweaty hands can get uncomfortable at times. We've no issues with the fact that you can switch between using one and two batteries to reduce/increase the model's weight though, that's pretty neat. What's also neat is the six programmable buttons, nothing we've not seen before but, this time, there's also onboard memory that lets you store different settings offline.

To bring this home, again, the Logitech G603 is an affordable wireless gaming mouse that can trade blows with mid-range corded gaming peripherals, which's something that only Logitech could pull off, so kudos to the company's engineers once again.

Precision and Sensor

If you are a really addicted player, this is probably the best mouse for gaming since it has a high-precision laser sensor that provides an incredible range of resolution - from a minimum 200 dpi to a stunning figure 8200 dpi (for the most dynamic games). You can save up to 5 different resolution patterns per account. It's the only laser gaming mouse with a button to regulate precision. At a single click, enhance your gaming experience!

Logitech has put a lot of effort to make this gaming mouse as convenient as possible - it has a black matte casing made from plastic. The mouse is sculpted in order to minimize hand fatigue and allows you to play for a few hours in a row. Your hand won't get tired and this is something that's been proved in practice, yet, there is a minor drawback worth mentioning - the device is rather big and will better work for gamers with biggish palms. Also, you can easily adjust the color of backlighting - red, yellow, green or blue are available. Keep in mind, that this is a mouse for right-handers only. The weight is 4.69 ounces, so it isn't too heavy.

Ergonomics

This best gaming mouse offers a lot of programmable buttons - there are 20 of them and you can easily assign any action to each of them. MMO buttons are pre-configured, so you don't need to spend a lot of time on installing some special software - just plug it in and that's all. Of course, you can create macros too - download a special Logitech Gaming Software and enjoy the full scope of features of this gaming mouse. With so many programmable buttons, you can play any game and reach the best results - trigger any actions - spells, hits, and so on - in a second. Also, this model of a gaming mouse is really durable - the buttons are designed to withstand up to 20 million clicks.

Just like the majority of gaming mouse devices, this Logitech model is a wired device that connects to a USB port of your PC or laptop. A wired technology ensures an awesome speed of response - just 1 ms - and any gamer knows that in a computer game every second is precious and any lag leads to a defeat. The USB cord is long enough - 6 feet.

What customers say about this product

Connection(5)

The cord is strong and feel like rope. Those familiar with gaming mice will be used to this as it's pretty standard among high end mice.

Features(4.8)

RGB Lighting. I'm a sucker for pretty lights on my peripherals. I've got mine on spectrum cycling and man does it look sexy.

Size & Weight(4.4)

This mouse IS NOT THAT BIG. I have small hands and this mouse is not an issue to operate.

Key Specs(4)

Multitude of buttons for MMOs, RPGs, or just whatever you like. Sophisticated system of macros and keyboard commands that can be assigned to each button. (Really, this mouse has even more buttons than the Naga Epic)

Fluid and Responsive Tracking

The HyperX Pulsefire Surge matches flashy aesthetics with ridiculous numbers to bring you an excellent gaming device at an affordable price. Even the name screams awesomesauce, fitting the device unlike even the most expensive mid-range gaming mice. Starting with the model's appearance, you have the dynamic, 360-degree RGB effects, with this smooth yet stunning light ring giving you a visual edge with customizable flair.

Using the HyperX NGENUITY software, you'll be able to customize not only the lighting effects but also access the mouse's three onboard profiles, program the standard six programmable buttons, change its DPI, the usual. The app is straightforward, easy to navigate, and visually expressive, so even the least experienced users will face no real challenges sifting through the settings. That being said, some believe that the layout is not that accessible to beginners, so this is more about subjective tastes and experiences.

What's not subjective is the model's massive 16,000 DPI. This is where we start bordering the unnecessary territory but the difference here is that this DPI is no gimmick. On the contrary, thanks to the Pixart 3389 sensor, the DPI comes alive, with fluid and responsive tracking giving players improved accuracy and unmatched precision.

Setting the model's pinpoint accuracy aside, what also defines this product is also responsive yet even more reliable Omron switches. Rated to last ~50 million clicks, these switches ensure the crispest, most satisfying tactile feedback that gives you more confidence in your inputs, knowing that the system will be able to register these inputs the instant you command them.

Smooth, Controlled Glide

Besides the RGB light ring, the mouse does not look that different compared to most mice. When you take a closer look though, you can see that this mouse is ambidextrous, which's pretty rare to begin with. What's also rare is the model's large skates that enable the smoothest, controlled glide, so you can even use this one without a mousepad, an environment that most gaming mice do not thrive in.

What else is there to add? The cord measures 6 feet, pretty standard, which means nothing to write about. The mouse weighs 4.69 ounces with the cord, which is, again, standard stuff.

Without even adding anything anymore, the HyperX Pulsefire Surge is awesome, matching gaming flair with performance and accuracy that hardcore gamers demand from their peripherals.

What customers say about this product

Key Specs(4.7)

3389 sensor is very precise, no jitter, no tracking problems.

Features(4.8)

The overall shape gives the ergonomic feel a "jack of all trades" quality.

Size & Weight(4.8)

The HyperX Pulsefire Surge is an excellent mouse. Wasn't too big or too small.

Connection(4.5)

High-quality USB connection, the mouse connects instantly and does not slow down.

Snipers, Rejoice

The Corsair M65 Elite is, as the name suggests, an elite device. What's elite about this device is primarily its DPI but also the sniper button that's driving force behind the model's "FPS gaming mouse" marketing slogan. This button is unique to the mouse yet, unlike most unique gaming features, is not as gimmicky as one might expect. Using the Corsair iCUE software, you'll be able to program this sniper button to instantly reduce the mouse's sensitivity, making crucial shots easy to make. You can go from 18,000 to 500 DPI in one click in an instant, making micro-adjustments and moving the cursor 0.001 inches without any issues.

That's right, DPI-wise, the device measures 18,000, ridiculous numbers even compared to the most ridiculous gaming mice. With its ultra-accurate tracking, the mouse's DPI is good enough to accommodate any and every gamer's needs and preferences, from those who play slow-paced, turn-based strategy games where you need the precision but not the speed to those who go above 200 actions per minute playing RTS, MOBA games, and first-person shooters. What's more, the model allows you to adjust the DPI using 1 DPI increments, which's somewhat unnecessary and excessive as far as most users are concerned but there are players out there who you'll find that useful.

Adjust the Center of Gravity

From the construction standpoint, the mouse leaves mixed feelings. On one hand, made from durable, high-strength anodized aluminum, this product is built to last, even when it becomes the target of gamers' fits of rage. On the other hand, the low-profile shape will likely prove uncomfortable for users with large hands and long fingers.

There's nothing uncomfortable about the Omron switches lifespan though, rated to survive more than 50 million clicks. There's also nothing uncomfortable about the model's eight programmable buttons, including the sniper button that we've reviewed above and two DPI buttons that you can remap and assign custom macros to.

But, while we're still on the subject of comfort, the tunable weight system is the biggest contributor here. You can not only use the three weights to adjust the model's weight from 3.42 to 4.13 ounces but also change its center of gravity, which's huge since, with extra buttons, most gaming mice's center of gravity is usually skewed.

Bottom line, the Corsair M65 Elite will be able to accommodate FPS maniacs first and foremost. That said, most gamers will find the mouse more than suitable enough.

What Is a Gaming Mouse?

A modern video game is a real piece of art, but if you want to maximize your gaming experience, you need to have a good gaming mouse which is totally different from a conventional mouse for everyday use. Any computer mouse is a peripheral device that turns the movements of your hand into movements of a pointer on the screen. Mouse devices are really widespread today and it's difficult to find a computer owner (no matter if it's a PC, a laptop or an iMac) who doesn't use it.

If you like playing, but your old PC can't handle the newest video games, consider getting a gaming PC or a gaming laptop from our shortlists.

Best Gaming Mouse

What Features to Compare

Precision

The first thing you need to consider is precision of a gaming mouse; this feature is also called resolution that the sensor supports. The sensor itself is usually either laser or optical - precision of the mouse device depends on the sensor and its quality. Precision, or resolution, is measured in dpi (dots per inch) and that’s the key factor all gamers pay attention to. In general, precision of a sensor reaches 5600 dpi and even more. However, a medium level for a gaming mouse is around 3000 dpi - that’s enough for ‘slow’ and ‘fast’ games.

Weight

Next, you need to consider the ergonomics of every gaming mouse, by which we mean the design, materials it’s made from, and the weight. The majority of gamers pay major attention to the weight. A lightweight mouse will better work for 'dynamic games' whereas a heavier device will ensure higher precision of movements. The ideal choice is the gaming mouse with adjustable weight. When talking about design and shape, most gaming mouse devices are either created for left-handers, or for right-handers, but also, there are plenty of mouse devices for both. For the utmost convenience, make sure to choose the mouse with accordance to your dominant hand - don’t hesitate to pick the mouse for right-handers instead of a model for both hands if your dominant hand is right. The optimal size of the mouse depends on how big your palm is. In general, you should be able to easily reach every button of a mouse. Also, consider how responsive the buttons are when you push them. Overly hard-to-push or, on the contrary, too soft buttons aren’t comfortable for game players. Finally, make sure to check the material that a mouse is made from - some models are made of pure plastic, whereas others have some rubber parts, so that it tightly fits your palm.

Buttons

Programmable buttons are one of the key features of gaming mouse devices. The more buttons a mouse has, the more gaming opportunities you will have. You can program the buttons to trigger certain actions right in the game without a need to spend precious time on finding the relevant buttons on the keyboard. Some gaming mouse devices can even create so-called macros (a sequence of actions) which is a major benefit for playing games. But if you don’t know how to do it and won’t use this option, you’d better chose a simpler gaming mouse and save some money up.

Connection Type

The final feature you need to consider is the connection type: there are wired devices and cordless devices (which have a wireless connection). As usual, most gaming mouse devices are wired because this type of connection is more reliable, lag- and interference-free. However, make sure to check the cord length - the longer the cord is, the more convenient in use a mouse will be.

The Great Debate: Wired vs Wireless

Many people have spent the last ~15 years debating wired versus wireless mice. That being said, as far as the gaming scene was concerned, there was no debate - wireless mice could not compete with wired models. Is that the case anymore? Well, this is what we have gathered to discuss here.

Wireless Mice

1. Latency. There's always some delay between you clicking the buttons and moving the mouse and the system registering these commands. This delay used to be noticeable enough to make wireless mice not even remotely suitable for gaming since that ~second between the aforementioned two factors is the difference between victory and defeat. Now, the delay's not as huge anymore. The best wireless gaming mice have been been able to reduce that latency to 1ms, which's enough to satisfy most gamers but, having said that, also not enough to erase the latency difference, so the biggest pros still stick to wired models but even with them you can make an argument that this is more about what they're used to than anything else.

2. Removing the wire. With wired models, you're adding cable drag. When moving the mouse, you're basically forced to move its cable too. When you cut the wire, you're not only removing the friction but, sometimes, even see noticeable improvements towards aiming.

3. Batteries. Wireless mice depend on batteries, not unlike all wireless devices. That means you're forced to replace the batteries from time to time or recharge them. The AA batteries that most mice use are not expensive. Battery chargers and rechargeable batteries are not expensive too. But the frustration you experience when the mouse dies on you during the game can be almost palpable.

4. Comfort. Even the biggest wired fanboys cannot deny that wireless models are more comfortable. You can bring the mouse to the bed and switch between different YouTube channels, pause movies, and more. With wireless keyboards, you can even play games without leaving your bed.

Wired Mice

1. Less expensive. Wireless models have been around for quite some time now, with Logitech introducing the first cordless model as early as 1991. That said, wireless mice have started receiving attention from most consumer electronics stores only somewhere around mid-2000s, and even then these mice were not that great performance-wise. Nowadays, there are affordable wireless mice that can even tussle with decent wired models but the ones that match wired mice's specs and performance always cost more than their corded peers.

2. Interference is not an issue. With wired mice, you need to make sure there's nothing sitting between the USB Bluetooth dongle and the mouse since, when that's the case, you'll run into interference issues from time to time and, when it comes to gaming, these issues can be enough to make even the calmest gamers seethe with rage.

3. Cable clutter. We've already discussed above that wired models also force you to move the cable, so you're adding friction and somewhat compromising the precision of the movements. What's more, you're also adding more cable clutter, which's obvious but also unfortunate since gaming PCs usually come with many different cables and wires sticking from the case, screen, and peripherals to begin with.
