The Best Value
If you're looking for the most out of your money, you should definitely take a closer look at the Sony X800H 55 Inch TV. The build quality of this Sony TV appears to be superior to Samsung and other competing TVs within its price bracket. Equipped with an innovative X1 processor, it upscales everything you watch to near 4K resolution. And along with the HDR capability combined with Motionflow XR frame interpolation, the TV produces very immersive images with a perceived frame rate of 240. As a result, you get much less motion blur and jitter on fast-moving scenes or games. With that, all the colors are rich and well-saturated, which further adds to the overall vividness and sharpness of the image.
The sound quality of the Sony X800H is fairly decent as well. The TV reproduces very good lows, highs, and basses. However, if you'd like to rattle the windows with deep thundering bass, you can always connect some high-end sound system through an optical audio output. Besides it, the Sony X800H has four HDMI ports that deliver outstanding video quality with vivid with impressive color depth. An analog component video input and RF "F" connector input is also supported. As for the USB thumb drive support, it's also amazing - the TV plays large M4V, MP4, and MOV files flawlessly.
Great Compatibility
When it comes to wireless connectivity options, Internet streaming is also quite sharp and vivid with this TV. And since the OS powering this TV is Android, you can significantly extend its capabilities by downloading additional applications from Google Play. The dashboard is simple to use and fully customizable with the apps you want to use. What's more, each app has its own well-designed interface and shows you the latest content without a need to dig for it. For instance, news apps show the news that's relevant, while music apps show recently-played playlists.
Naturally, this Android TV successfully integrates with Android and Google ecosystems and pairs easily with Android devices. You can connect it to Alexa and ask it to play music, launch some video apps, and more. Or, you can sign into Google Assistant and expand the voice capabilities of the remote control. Speaking of which, the remote is well laid-out and very responsive. The only slight niggle is that some users find it ridiculously long and not very comfortable in hands. Yet, the number of great features the Sony X800H offers easily overshadows this small issue. It's a feature-rich and responsive TV set with numerous input options, vivid colors, and sharp definition

The Door to Flagship TVs
The Samsung QN55Q60RAFXZA has been referred to as a door to Samsung's flagship TVs and we can see where the people making this reference are coming from. Sure, the product has its flaws but they're negligible when you put the screen's price into perspective.
Starting with the model's design, the bezels are slim, while the U-shaped legs comfortably sit under the screen. In fact, the entire TV is pretty slim, so you can mount this thing onto most walls without worrying about space. The legs are made from relatively flimsy plastic that might snap/chip, so we would definitely recommend looking into wall-mounting.
The product is so slim compared to most OLED TVs because the people behind this screen went with an edge-lit design rather than the full-array lighting setup that most high-end and mid-range OLED models use these days. That means that the TV is unable to get as bright as its full-array counterparts.
No sacrifices have been made regarding the TV's smart platform though. Adopting Tizen, easily one of the fastest, most responsive operating TV systems, the model makes its settings and various tools/features easily accessible. You'll be able to easily switch between Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, and more.
Smooth Motion
Even though the TV features the same 4K native resolution that most OLED TVs these days come fitted with, generally speaking, people use these TVs to watch HD and SDR content (live cable, OTA broadcasts, various non-4K content from different streaming services) more often than not.
That's precisely why the TV's edge-lit profile is not as bad as one might think. You don't need especially high brightness to make these formats look good. All you need is decent upscaling tech and this TV more than delivers in this department.
Using the company's Quantum processor, the screen incorporates sophisticated AI algorithms that fill in the details when upscaling from SDR/HD to 4K. These algorithms are able to make upscaled visuals look crisp and clear.
At the same time, the TV's motion handling is better than most OLED models' within this price bracket, ensuring smooth playback, all while making sure that the dialogue scenes do not have that soap opera effect.
On the sound front, the two 10-watt speakers are not necessarily something to write home about but the AI-controlled Intelligent Audio tech does solid work elevating the mids and adding clarity to the dialogue.
In closing, the Samsung QN55Q60RAFXZA is unable to compete with the company's flagship models since those cost more than double the price but the TV will have no issues bumping heads with any OLED TV within its price segment.

One of the Smartest
LG is among the top industry brands that produce a myriad of different TV screens for all sorts of market segments, and what we have here is is a good entry-level 4K model that performs really well in most uses. It's very reasonably-priced but has quite a lot to offer even to the most demanding customers.
To begin with, the LG 55UN7300PUF will certainly not disappoint you in terms of smart functionality. Whereas many other TVs have just a few extra features and a horribly complicated interface, this one is different. The Quad-core processor built into this TV in combination with the webOS works smoothly and can support numerous online streaming services with no lags. Those include Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, and many more.
Yet, the biggest selling point of this TV is the fact that it's compatible with the famous LG ThinQ Artificial Intelligence. And along with the unique LG Voice Mate ™ speech recognition technology, the AI ThinQ Smart Hub suite brings the convenience of voice interaction - the TV can listen to users, think and answer their questions. To unleash its full potential and make operating the TV easier, the manufacturer includes the Magic Remote in the set.
Good Picture Quality
When we focus on the picture quality this TV offers, we can safely say that it's more than great for the price. The telly has wide viewing angles and can fit large living rooms with wide seating areas perfectly. The thing is, the LG 55UN7300PUF is made with an IPS panel to provide good picture quality from side angles without decreasing color saturation and contrast. So, it ensures rich, vibrant colors at a high contrast ratio and wide viewing angles. However, like most IPS panels, it lacks a local dimming feature and might hurt black levels a bit. Also, it's worth mentioning that the TV supports HDR10 but not HDR10+, meaning it can't get bright enough to bring out the smallest specular highlights. That's why this TV may be not the best option for nighttime watchers who would like to get the most detailed picture ever.
Other than that, the LG 55UN7300PUF is a decent real 4K screen that has a wide side angle viewing capability, great reflection handling, and good overall performance. Designed with artificial intelligence, it's also one of the smartest models you can find.

For Avid Gamers
The Samsung UN55TU8000FXZA is surely one of the sleekest mid-range TVs we've looked at. It boasts Crystal Processor 4K and can immediately upscale content to stunning 4K resolution, presenting the brilliant, detailed, and immersive picture. In addition, HDR technology provides high-contrast imagery with a wide spectrum of colors and visual details. The one minor flaw is that the blacks aren't truly black since the TV has no backlight, as it's the case with any other LCD screen. Yet, unless you're going to pony up the money for a true OLED TV, that's just the way it's going to be.
Besides, it's not just about picture quality. The TV can deliver very good sound with excellent clarity, detail, and depth to boot. Actually, the built-in speakers produce a high-quality sound that we rarely expect from a flat-screen TV. Of course, it won't shake your walls with strong bass, but it's surely a large improvement to previous models.
Another highlight of the Samsung UN55TU8000FXZA is the addition of the Auto Game Mode (ALLM). The TV knows when you're ready to play and can get you into the gaming much faster compared to other flat TVs. It'll automatically optimize the screen and minimize input lag, thus, giving you more control and ensuring smooth experience without motion blur and judder.
Minimalist Design
With the ridiculously slim frame, this TV can immerse you in the on-screen action and make the gameplay look and feel far more true-to-life. The TV has a sleek, elegant, and minimalistic design that draws you into the screen from any angle and seamlessly blends with the surroundings. And to be even more unobtrusive, the TV is fitted with the nice stand that neatly hides all the cables and lets you fully enjoy your TV content without the clutter.
The TV remote here also has a tidy design with minimum buttons and a slim profile. Yet, Samsung's OneRemote packs a big punch and can give you total control over watching experience. It automatically detects all compatible connected devices and lets you use your voice to access favorite content as well as control other smart devices around your home. And what is notable, besides Alexa and Google Assistant, it also supports Bixby.
In sum, this is a great TV from a world-leading manufacturer that won't break the bank. For sure, it's one of the best 4K TV for gaming at its price point. Also, this 55-inch panel will be excellent for movie nights.

Good Budget TV
If you're on a shoestring budget, the TCL 54 Series Roku TV 55S525 may be something to your liking. It's a basic 4K model that ensures excellent response time and really strong overall picture quality in both dark spaces and well-lit rooms. That's largely achieved owing to the new Nano Band Phosphor (NBP) Photon technology that delivers a wider color gamut compared to the previous series and supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 formats. In addition, it touts a much better 120Hz clear motion index for console gaming and PC use.
Moving on, we would like to emphasize that the color performance of this TCL TV is also good. It has an excellent contrast ratio, decent brightness, and fantastic black uniformity. That is to say, it offers surprisingly strong color volume even at high brightness or during dim scenes. Yet, at low brightness levels, you may notice a slight backlight flicker, although it's not overly obvious.
As for the sound quality, the TV comes with two built-in speakers (total power of 16 Watts) that can get pretty loud when necessary. However, if that is not enough for your taste, the manufacturer kindly offers a bundle with an additional soundbar.
Simplicity Above All
Speaking of design peculiarities, the TCL 55S525 certainly wins on style. It has a clean, minimalist look with ribbon-thin borders and legs that support the TV really well. The back of the TV is also very plain. On the rear, it has the plastic electronics connection compartment that looks simple but houses three HDMI ports, a headphone jack, a USB port, a Composite in, an Optical out, and even an Ethernet port. So it has everything to let you connect your gaming consoles, cable or satellite TV, Blu-ray players, and some other devices.
That said, we believe you'll hardly need to connect any third-party devices as this TV runs the Roku smart OS which is generally excellent and gives quick access to thousands of streaming channels and media apps. The Roku's interface is extremely user-friendly and runs perfectly smooth. Plus, you can navigate it using either a special app on your phone or the remote that comes in the box. The remote also has a minimalistic design and features only a few control buttons.
All things considered, despite being quite budget-friendly, this TCL TV offers good clarity and isn't deprived of the most essential features you may look for in a 55-inch screen. It has good contrast, black uniformity, and hardly requires a connection to external streaming media boxes or a cable TV subscription owing to the Roku platform that offers a whole new world of entertainment.

What Is a 55-inch TV?
Did you know that most people sit about 9 feet from their TVs? And although THX (the American company that sets audio/visual reproduction standards) recommends a TV with a screen size of around 90 inches for that distance, we believe that not everyone has enough space to install these huge TVs in their living rooms. That's why a 55-inch TV is the most optimal option. They are large enough to create an immersive experience and can fit in most lounge rooms easily. A 55-inch TV is 26.9-inch high and 47.8-inch wide. Yet, if you still hesitate what TV screen you really need for your room, you can refer to this chart.
Currently, there are tons of different model on the market, and to simplify your choice a bit, we have rounded up the best 55-inch TVs for any budget. You'll find here different models with both flat and curved screens, Full HD and Ultra HD resolutions. And if you also need an additional TV for your kitchen or bedroom, you might be interested in the top 32-inch TVs.
What Features to Compare
Resolution
The very first thing to consider before getting a TV is a screen resolution. It's the number of distinct pixels that are displayed on the screen. And the higher this number is, the better the picture will be. Nowadays, most 55-inch TVs have Full high-definition (Full HD) resolution or Ultra-high-definition (UHD) resolution. The most affordable TVs have HD (1280p x 720p) resolution which while being low by new standards might be enough if all you need a television for is watching TV shows. In fact, many popular American channels such as ABC, Fox, ESPN, and others are broadcasted in HD resolution only. And this isn't likely to change soon.
The majority of modern 55-inch TVs use Full HD resolution (1920p x 1080p) that is quite good for watching movies, sports events, and similar video content. And the most sophisticated models have the best 4K UHD resolution which delivers extremely crisp and sharp picture. No wonder that these TVs are the most expensive either.
We also recommend you to have a look at the refresh rate. The higher it is, the less motion blur you'll experience in moving action scenes.
Design
If you want to get the most immersive experience possible, choose models with curved screens. They will add some sense of ‘depth’ in everything you'll watch. This way, you'll feel more like watching 3D content instead of 2D, as the curved picture "wraps around" you more. If you want to get a flat-screen TV, try to choose those that have minimal bezels so you can enjoy the almost edgeless image. Also, it's important to select the frame that matches your room interior. If you're going to mount a TV on the wall, opt for models that come with articulating/tilting wall mounts. Don't forget to check the TV interface and ports available for connecting HDMI cables, satellite receivers, Blu-ray players, game consoles, and USB drives.
Extras
Did you know?
Active 3D vs. Passive 3D
You know for sure that most cinemas give you polarized glasses for 3D movies. However, do you know what 3D technology they use? But before we answer this question, first things first, let's find out what 3D actually means. 3D is three-dimensional pictures that have the width, height, and depth. And to see the "depth" from your 3D TV or cinema screen, your each eye should receive slightly different information. To put it simply, your left eye will see information meant for your right eye, and vice versa. There are two ways to deliver different information to your eyes: by using active and passive 3D.
Active 3D technology uses shutter glasses powered by batteries. They do exactly what their name implies - they are constantly shuttering open/closed. Thus, the information intended for your left eye is blocked from your right eye with a closed shutter. Active 3D can be used on LCDs, LED LCDs, plasmas, and home projectors. The only requirement is the ability of the device to refresh at least 60 FPS (frames per second).
Passive 3D uses less expensive polarized glasses and passive 3D TVs are equipped with a special filter that polarizes every line of pixels. This filter makes some lines on the screen visible to your left eye only and others visible to your right eye. Without wearing the glasses, your TV will look like a standard one. You can find Passive 3D on LCD and LED LCD TVs.
Another difference is that your eyes get the Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution with an active 3D, and only 1920 x 540 pixels with passive. Yet, active battery-powered shutter glasses are usually much heavier and bulkier.
LED vs. LCD TVs
Many people still believe that LEDs and LCDs are completely different types of TVs, but actually, an LED TV is a type of an LCD TV. And the whole name should sound like “LED-backlit LCD TVs” but since it’s too much of a mouthful for daily conversations, people just call them LED TVs.
Both these types use a liquid crystal display (LCD) to control backlighting of the screen. The panels include two layers of polarizing materials with some liquid crystal solution between them. With all that out of the way, you may still wonder what's the difference between LCD and LED TVs. In fact, the difference was - LCD TVs are no longer produced. Back then, though, in order to backlight the screen, older LCD TVs were made with cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) while LED TVs used small and much more energy-efficient emitting diodes (LEDs). Now, all LCD models use LED lights and thus are regarded as LED TVs. Aside from these two types, you can also find QLED and OLED TVs, however, these are equivalent to traditional LED TVs and use a few advanced technologies allowing them to deliver infinite contrast and more saturated colors.
How to Connect a Phone to a TV?
Today, you can mirror photos, videos, or whatever’s on your phone display to your smart TV. The main requirement is that both your cell phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network. Also, your phone should have a Screen Mirroring (or Smart View) function. If your phone has this feature, your TV will seek out it and connect to it in seconds.
