With live trapping you can decide what to do with the prisoner, so if you catch the neighbors' cat, he's not dead and you can release him while choosing to dispatch pests.
I bought it to eventually trap a very shy, stray (possibly feral) cat that I've been leaving food and water for in my backyard. I hope to help this cat by adopting and domesticating it. I think this trap will work when it's time to give it a try.
This worked perfectly, and I have it set up again. I came out one evening, and to my surprise, the door was up. I looked in, and there was the opossum.
The trap was in bad shape after the big one--he beat it up and bent it and that got worse after I arrived. The handle came off while I was trying to shake him out of it. I doubt it would keep an adult raccoon inside, if you want to do that get one of the heavier models.
There's no easy way to let the catch go. Opening the back end of the cage can be done safely with large pliers. I wouldn't want to try to hold the big trapping door open while a scared animal ran by my hand.

This trap worked exactly as advertised! Simple to set up and very successfully caught some unwanted critters.
Easy to set and open without sticking your hand in the cage. Just pull the lever across the top.
Not too traumatic for the trapped animal -- we have two local cats that purposefully spring it when they want a free meal.
Faulty catch bar design. I had two armadillos escape by pushing the door and the catch bar didn't hold the door down.
Raccoon actually bent the locking bar for the back of the trap and escaped. Thankfully it didn't happen during transportation or while handling the trap.

Perfect size for a cat and easy to set once you figure out the mechanics.
Personally I think this model is the right size for most homes. While the smaller trap costs only about half as much it just doesn't seem large enough for kind of animals that I have encountered taking up uninvited residence.
Havahart 1089 collapsible one-door live animal cage is very sturdy, easy to assemble and just the right size to trap and remove the opposums from my attic and back into our yard.
Catches cat's and just caught a raccoon though by mistake and let it go. Nice size for small or larger animals l like cat's or coons.

Lightweight and easily folds up for storage.
Because of the nice size plate on top of the cage I didn't get scratched.
Just make sure you are purchasing the proper size needed. The smaller version we borrowed from a neighbor was not able to catch this elusive critter, but this one was just the ticket!
I would like to see a size between this one and the next smaller one. Many of the neighborhood feral are smaller, so this trap seems like overkill. This is the most petty complaint I have.
A moderately sized kitten couldn't trigger the trap, but I was able to sneak up to it and set it off myself.

Easy to adjust the sensitivity--I've seen reviews where people say the trap wouldn't trigger or it wouldn't stay open. Pliers. Just bend the hooked wire a little. I consider that a feature.
It folds up--that's great because trapping like this is a very occasional thing.
Feels very sturdy and will contain anything that can get inside. The trigger mechanism is just perfect and a sizable animal will trigger it with ease.
Very pleased with this purchase. Set up without a problem. Collapsible feature easy to do and great for storage.Highly recommend this trap.I caught possom,skunk, 2 squirrels,easily.
The handle does not provide enough protection--when the animal is big, like the last groundhog, it can hop up and get close to your hand. Wearing gloves will protect against a glancing blow but will not stop a direct hit.
It closes hard. In my case good riddance, but if you're trying to catch your cat, well, I'm not sure where the tail goes.

However, the handle that opens the trap door should be color coded/painted in red since many vet techs confuse the handle that lifts the cage and the handle that opens the trap door, thereby accidentally releasing a feral cat.
The handle and guard are the best thing about this trap. I thought at first the easy set would be the best thing (turns out that is actually a hindrance).
Also - the simple one-handed setting procedure makes it so easy that even my grandson can do it.
Trap works great with just one hand to set it & release your catch. I have set it twice & have 2 catches.
Do not purchase this trap. It is poorly designed and your critters will escape.
