Nuova Simonelli Oscar II
Rancilio Silvia
- Oscar is not a quick machine, it likes to take it's time warming up and stabilizing it's temperature. But that's true of almost all larger boiler size high end double boiler and heat exchanger machines. Once it's properly warmed up (25-40min)
- I am so glad I bought it. What can I say; the power and taste of a coffeeshop in your own home. Easy to hook to a water source to bypass the use of the reservoir as well.
- Makes great consistent shots. Took a bit to get the hang of the frothed - but I got it.
- Oscar is capable of preparing great coffee, the steam power is unbeatable. Highly recommend Oscar to coffee lovers.
- it's a hard pull to remove the water reservoir from the machine & if you try to fill it in the machine you're pouring water at shoulder height into an opening the size of a half-dollar.
- Solid, real espresso machine and capable of both real espresso and real steam milk (inlcd foam).
- The portafilter (the bit that holds the coffee) is full-sized and solid chromed brass. It retains heat nicely, so the brew going into your cup is at a proper temperature. The 58mm filter basket allows for a healthy dose of coffee.
- Makes great coffee and lasts forever with essentially no maintenance.
- Very loud, specific set up and if it is not done right--you can screw up the machine.
- The water reservoir is a little small. I keep a gallon jug next to the machine and fill it almost daily.
- We love the look and the size. I was worried it wouldn't be the same as the huge machines we use, but it works great.
- it looks good sitting on the counter top (although it is a little large).
- Big machine: however is overpriced, it doesn't come with anything even the picher, you have to buy yourself separately ,
- All-metal casing and frame: The cladding's brushed stainless, and is low-maintenance. Wipe down with a damp cloth and mild soap every once in a while.
- My first impression is that this thing weighs a ton. It really does weight about 35 lbs. All components around the coffee are stainless steel. And I understand the boiler is marine grade brass not likely to have corrosion problems like my previous espresso maker.
- It feels and looks like a commercial unit for the home, and I really like the styling - basic, clean and sleek.
- It's heavy and big.
- I love the Machine once all was working properly. It took a few calls to get the machine program working correctly,
- looks fantistic and with a bit of practice makes excellent coffee. the steam wand is easily the best I've ever seen.
- The main features of the Oscar include: copper boiler with heat exchanger; heated brew head; heavy duty quality components throughout; amazing dry steam power - able to extract espresso and steam milk at the same time.
- It left out the variables that I didn't want to deal with: temperature, multiple buttons. Could it be better? Sure. The steam wand could have a better angle (higher up on the machine) and replace the knob with a lever, but again, it gets the job done.
- It makes a great shot, time after time, thanks to the heat exchanger (HX). And the steam capacity of this machine is awesome - you'll run out of milk before you run out of steam.
- Solid switches and mechanical components: The rocker switches are solid and last forever.
- Simple operation: very few things to go wrong. No built-in-grinder. No auto-brew or fussy push-button controls to malfunction.
- Simple controls. If you are looking for workhorse without the fancy electronics... This is it.
- This machine is not an easy thing to get to know. This isn't a machine that has any intuitive controls or any user friendly directions. This is a machine that takes trial and error, research, lots of time and money to spend.
- It doesn't have a PID controller which will accurately set the temp the perfect degree which will give you a consistent quality shot everytime.
- we love this machine, keeps up quite efficiently and lets us steam at the same time!!!
- Works great for a slow paced commercial location. No issues so far.
- This is an awesome espresso machine! It foams and makes to espresso cups at a time.
- This machine had all of the features I was looking for in a home-version of a professional machine: professional-sized basket (58 mm), capability to steam while pulling a shot, reservoir that can be filled while the machine is on.
- I no longer microwave the water for my Americano. I simply steam the water for 10-20 seconds and it is done. The amount of steam generated by this machine is borderline ridiculous.
- Omni-directional steam wand: It's mounted on a ball joint, so it swivels where you want it to - not just out to the side. A good thing for tight spaces.
- The steam wand operates as expected. Love it.
- The steam wand is powerful and froths milk for a silky smooth latte or cappucino perfectly.
- The Portafilter is very well made (heavy) and feels very "professional". If there is one thing the Italians know how to do...its Espresso (and Espresso Accessories).
- The drip tray capacity is much too small. I have to empty mine almost daily to keep it from over-flowing onto my counter
