Delonghi ECAM22110SB
Delonghi ESAM3300
- The grinding mechanism on this machine is more robust that most and not prone to gumming up on "oily" coffee beans.
- The temperature of the heated water was higher than all of the other models that made it to my final selection.
- Easy to access the water bin which can slide out partially and be filled while it is in place. Very nice feature considering you add water daily like you do with all machines.
- VERY SMALL water reservoir - feels like that every other time I use the machine, I need to refill it with water
- No auto-on functionality.
- The only minor issue is that bean hopper "con" above. It's a bit shallow in slope, so my slightly oily beans (Costco/Kirkland espresso, roasted by Starbucks beans) get stuck sometimes during the grinding portion of the process.
- Makes perfect espresso and Americano. Relatively quiet operation (compared to prior machine).
- Easy access to water and coffee grounds container, from front of machine.
- Grinds and runs once for double cup. Large in class water tank, bean hopper and dump box. Relatively quite.
- Water container is accessible from front (unlike my old Saeco Incanto which has it in the back) and is easily removed; container holds a good amount of water.
- Smallish water reservoir, needs refilling often if you drink Americano rather than espresso.
- Need to hold the milk pitcher under nozzle while frothing (with our manual machine, you could set it under the nozzle and leave it - but then that is probably not as good for froth quality).
- Magnifica doesn't have a standby/power saving mode so I have to turn it on/off each time.
- Very compact -- takes up less counter space than my drip coffee maker + hot water dispenser.
- Smaller and much quieter than former version.
- The size is right to fit under a standard American cabinet.
- It's loud -- that's pretty standard for these machines, but some people might be surprised by it.
- Compact, attractive styling
- Looks sleek on counter and nice to no longer have separate grinder on counter too.
- Small foot print. This is barely larger then our old 'grind and brew' machine.
- The size is perfect for a family with two coffee-lovers!
- Simple to use and maintain -- you just need to take the time to read the manual before turning it on.
- Allows you to adjust grind and dose to your taste.
- Temperature Control - you can modify the temperature of the coffee, which was quite important for me.
- Dial to control the coffee strength.
- Spout's height can be controlled.
- Balance of water and grounds is infinitely variable, as both are controlled independently by knobs.
- Very adjustable - amount of coffee, ground, water - so you can calibrate to your taste - but it will take a little trial and error.
- I like my espresso strong and this machine has settings to set the concentration and the amount of liquid, which produces a very concentrated high quality espresso.
- The coffee spout adjusts easily and smoothly with one hand.
- Wish the analog dials had a slightly bolder red needle on them. In dim light, its difficult to see the current settings.
- It tells you whenever it needs maintenance (more water, empty grounds container, change water filter, descaling).
- Ground & Beans - you have the option to use ground coffee or just put the beans inside the storage, and the machine will grind the coffee every time.
- Steam wand - will automatically expunge the excess water before steaming the milk.
- Cleaning of steam wand is a pain -- you have to disassemble the wand and hand-wash the removable pieces after every use.
- Frothing - this is my biggest flaw with this machine. It does not froth - it just heats up and boils the milk.
- Drip tray and used coffee puck removal is easily done.
- The machine has an automatic flushing process BEFORE and AFTER brewing (when turned on and when turned off).
- I love the automatic shut off and machine heats up quickly.
- Warmer tray looks nice and gets relatively hot but takes a long time to warm cups (espresso cups only).
- The brewing process is a bit noisy which is due to the plastic exterior (it vibrates more) but not so loud that it would disturb a conversation nearby.
- Frother has 2 parts and is tedious to clean.
