About the Product
The new SP70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) telephoto lens reimagines the highly acclaimed Model A009 with enhanced optical performance, improved VC (Vibration Compensation), faster AF speed and accuracy, and shortened MOD (Minimum Object Distance) for greater flexibility. What’s more, compatibility with Tamron teleconverters provides additional focal length.
The Sigma 70-200 2.8 EX DG HSM OS is a large aperture telephoto zoom lens which features Sigma technology including a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) and an Optical Stabilizer (OS). Fast, sharp and highly versatile, the 70-200mm 2.8 is a staple focal length for many types of photography including wedding photography, portrait photography, sports photography, and wildlife photography to name a few. Two FLD glass elements (with performance equal to Flourite) and 3 SLD elements (Special Low Dispersion) ensure outstanding image quality through the entire 70mm to 200mm range.

What customers say about "Key Specs"
Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC G2 for Nikon FX Digital SLR Camera
- This Tamron 70-200 is far and above a much sharper lens all through its aperture and zoom range.
- Fantastic lens! The image quality of this lens is amazing at every focal length and aperture I tried. I debated the purchase of this as an upgrade of an existing 70-200 f2.8 I had and I was not disappointed.
- The VC (Tamron’s version of VR) is excellent, maybe a stop better than the Nikon. I was able to get good shots at 200mm at 1/60 sec. and even slower.
- The autofocus is quick and accurate; I haven't suffered any front or back focusing issues, and the minimum distance is such that getting shots up close is easy.
- The ONLY place that the Tamron was sharper than my Nikon was in the center at f/2.8 (at 85mm). At every other focal length and aperture, my Nikon was at least as sharp as, or sharper than, the Tamron.
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD Large Aperture Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon
- Sharp at all focal lengths. Great in low light.
- Quick and accurate focus, smooth focus and zoom action, and beautiful bokeh at f/2.8!!
- Moderately sharp wide open; Amazing at f/4 and smaller.
- I’m Loving the larger aperture Easy to use. Fast focus and stabilization. No problems using on cannon 3-TI.
- This Sigma was way out of focus at 200mm f/2.8 and the optical stabilization seemed to make no difference. I immediately returned this and ordered the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 VR lens.
- Noisy Optical Stabilization.

What customers say about "Size & Weight"
Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC G2 for Nikon FX Digital SLR Camera
- It's not bulky. accurate made and easy to carry.
- I like it's light weight as i will be climbing mountains and waterfalls for my photography needs.
- A little heavy. It comes in around 3.5 pounds. So attached to a 5d mkii with grip, you know you are toting something and after shooting 2500 pictures in an 8 hour day, you get your workout in for the day.
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD Large Aperture Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon
- Love it! The weight takes some getting used to, but the lens is perfect.
- The Sigma lens is heavy enough but well constructed
- Weighs a bit more than expected.
- I was a little surprised by the weight of this thing. It is heavier than my camera.
- The negative point (which I already knew before buying) is the weight of the lens. Too heavy to carry on the weekends dedicated to photography.

What customers say about "Imaging"
Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC G2 for Nikon FX Digital SLR Camera
- Extremely Fast & versatile. Very close focusing distance.
- Background compression is amazing.Bokeh is astounding (with 9 rounded blades who could argue).
- Incredibly sharp. Excellent color rendition. Fast and accurate autofocus.
- Lense captures outstanding images even when shooting handheld. The VC is excellent and focusing is acceptably fast.
- Bokeh looks good. Close focus is impressive as well.
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD Large Aperture Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon
- Bokeh is decent (high-contrast backgrounds make the bokeh look nervous though).
- The OS engaging can be a bit unsettling/loud for some but it is normal for Sigma lenses it is a gyroscope that stabilizes part of the lens elements. I have taken sharp shots down to 1/20, it is very effective
- Great sharp images, nice "blown out" backgrounds (bokeh), fast focus, excellent image stabilization with handheld shots.
- Images are very sharp and full of contrast. Wonderful bokeh. Some say Optical Stabilization is worthless, but I'm surprised to find so many sharp indoor images when I go thru my pictures at the end of the shoot.
- Unlike the macro the minimum zoom range is pretty far at around 4 feet.

What customers say about "Features"
Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC G2 for Nikon FX Digital SLR Camera
- I purchased the TAP dock so that I could fine tune the focus, as my Nikon was having both backfocusing and front focusing issues at different ranges.
- Focus and zoom rings feel good and work smoothly.
- The auto-focus & VC switches are between the zoom ring and camera body, making them easy to accidentally switch with your hand. They almost get in the way but they're not big and bulky, just in an odd place.
- The build quality is good, but not up to the level of the Nikon. The zoom ring is not just stiffer, but nowhere near as smooth.
- The only reason I gave this lens 4/5 stars is that the switches do protrude a bit and get bumped. Sometimes I turn off the VC or auto-focus by accident.
Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD Large Aperture Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon
- Includes DX camera hood extension, OS technology, as good or better than the Nikkor for almost half the price.
- Detachable tripod mount.
- HSM II AF Motor is surprisingly quick!
- OS is very close to VRII in terms of functionality.
- Apparently not weather proof so be careful, put a rainsleeve on if you are unsure.
- No weather sealing (Why not, Sigma?).
- Zoom is on the far end which makes the lens useless if the hood is on backwards (I usually do that for storage).
