Extend Your Reach
Getting dog hair out of pile carpet can be a real headache, especially if it’s gotten clumped up and stuck to the rug. Luckily, you don’t have to do it by hand as the Carlisle 4575100 will help modernize the chore and make it easier.
You can just grab onto the slick lacquered handle and start dragging this carpet groomer along the surface to dig out any dirt or fur that might be stuck. Doing so shouldn’t be hard considering the handle is 4.5 feet long. This means you won’t have to be bent over all the time, which makes life considerably easier. Besides, that way you can even stick the rake under a couch or bed to get parts of the carpet that might be out of reach otherwise. Now, admittedly, the fact that the handle is wooden means it’s a bit on the heavy side and thus can get tiring to drag around. Still, the main block is lightweight plastic which compensates for the extra weight.
Speaking of the block, it’s eighteen inches long so it covers a lot of ground at once, which means you don’t have to do as many passes. And with the nearly inch and a half tall bristles, you can rest assured that even deep carpet will be raked thoroughly.
All things considered, there’s very little to complain about in the Carlisle 4575100 other than the above average weight. It’s a high-quality rake that will be suitable for deep rugs and cleaning even the toughest spots.
Steel Your Chores
Chores are never fun but cleaning out a carpet with a hair rake is certainly up there in terms of nastiness. Especially when you’re just a tad too tall or short for your grooming tool and thus have to either bend down or hold it like some sort of sword with part of the handle sticking out behind you. But, while we can’t eliminate the need for chores altogether, we can make your life easier by suggesting you use the Quality Line Enterprises Hydra rake.
This model has a 4-foot long plastic handle, which usually isn’t anything to write home about. However, the handle here is telescopic so you can make it as short or long as you need to fit your height. That way you’ll never have to bend down or maneuver an unwieldy long rake. Besides, the handle has a hanging hole so you can hang up the tool in a closet when it’s not in use.
Admittedly, not all parts of the Hydra rake are as well-built as the handle. For example, the screws on the block have to be tightened periodically lest it fall off in the middle of clean-up. However, the block itself is very sturdy with steel bristles so you can rake in dirt that would stay stuck to the rug otherwise, especially with the 11-inch coverage of the rake. You won’t have to apply any force at all to get dog hair and cat fur out of the carpet.
So while there is a small con in the design, the Quality Line Hydra certainly lives up to its price and makes for a worthy investment for those who often deal with particularly nasty spills. There’s no spot this model can’t get rid of so take it up for harder jobs.
Longevity is Key
Not everybody wants to spend fifty bucks on something as simple as a carpet rake for long hair. After all, it’s just one of the many tools in your cleaning arsenal and, besides, you don’t actually have to break the proverbial piggy bank to get one. In particular, the Grandi Groom AB24 is a very reasonably priced yet high-end choice.
What makes this model a high-quality one is the sturdy wood handle and the nylon bristles that are affixed to the block itself. The fixing is so reliable that even several years of regular use won’t end up tearing out a single bristle. And though they are nylon and the block is plastic, you won’t see any bending or damage at all. All of this is pretty important considering the frankly poor 30-day warranty.
We also liked the fact that the block here is 18” long and thus covers more ground than most. Couple that with the 4.5-feet handle length and you get a tool that can rake in any dirt from your rug in a matter of minutes. The handle does seem to have no layer of coating to protect it from water so make sure not to use it on wet carpets.
Although we found a few minor gripes here and there, the Grandi Groom AB24 is undoubtedly one of the top choices in terms of price-to-quality ratio. It’s affordable, reliable, and efficient at what it does, a great find for home cleaning.

Double the Cleaning Power
Pet owners know how tough it can be to get all of the pet hair out of couches, carpets, and clothes. It’s particularly infuriating when you take one pass of the matted carpet, then a second one, and yet the clumps of hair remain. Thankfully, there are rakes such as the BCW 11-7/8 that will get rid of any and all dirt and hair in less time than most other models.
The bristles here are placed in two rows so even if the first layer of plastic doesn’t catch the dirt, the second one will finish up the job. Besides, the dual rows allow the bristles to “grab” larger debris and keep it stuck to the rake so you don’t accidentally lose it in deep rugs.
Sadly, not everything about the BCW 11-7/8 is as great as the block and bristles. Most notoriously, this model does not come with a handle. That not only means an additional expense but also trying to find a handle that actually fits this model. Though it’s not the biggest problem, it sours the overall impression somewhat. It is, however, a good option if your carpet rake has let you down and you want to swap the block out for one that’s reliable enough for professional use.
All in all, while we wouldn’t call the BCW 11-7/8 the absolute best choice on the market, it’s a high-quality and relatively budget-friendly choice. If you’re not put off by having to buy the handle separately, there’s no reason not to take advantage of this bargain offer.

Stand Tall and Deliver
It can be quite inconvenient to spend your cleanups bent over at the waist, in particular, because you don’t actually have to do it. You don’t even have to spend that much to get rid of the issue as the Groom Industries H&PC-88253 will help you out.
This affordable hair rake has a handle made up of three 16-inch parts, each of which can be taken off as needed. That way you can not only adjust the height of the rake to match yours but also take it apart for more convenient storage. And though this model is certainly very budget-friendly, it’s not shoddily-built so the parts fit together well and there’s no chance of the tool falling apart.
Although both the pole and the block here are durable, they do tend to lose their look after a few months of use as the plastic surfaces get scratched up easily. It’s not a big issue since you’re not buying this rake for its looks but it’s still a shame.
As for the coverage and bristles, the Groom Industries H&PC-88253 works on 12 inches at once and the 1.25-inch bristles will reach deep into any rug to pull out clumps of pet hair. So even though this rake model might lose its glossy new look faster than most, it’ll certainly stay just as useful thanks to a sturdy build and detachable pole parts.

What Is a Carpet Rake?
Ask ten pet owners if there’s anything they dislike about having a dog or cat and at least half will complain about the clumps of pet hair that litter their home, getting stuck in carpets, sofas, and on clothes. And while an overcoat is easy to clean off with lint brushes and furniture is usually kept neat with a vacuum for pet hair, there’s a whole different tool you have to use if you want your rugs to look pristine and not have tufts of fur sticking out. These specially-designed carpet rakes are dragged across rugs and carpets, catching any debris inside them on the way. Sometimes a single pass can really pull out a ton of dirt that you’ve been missing all this time while vacuuming. And, of course, it dislodges clumps of fur and hair that might stay stuck in the rug otherwise. It's even advised to use your rake then vacuum and then use the rake again for the best results.
Most of the time, these tools can be taken apart for convenient storage as they’re usually made up of two key elements: a handle and a block, the part that actually does the cleaning. Depending on the materials used, you’ll see different price points and weight so it should be easy to find a deep carpet rake model that suits your needs.
