Product Comparison: Brooks B17 vs Brooks Flyer
General Specifications
About the Product
The B17 is our flagship model, ideal for long distance sports touring, trekking and mountain bike use. It has been on the market for over 100 years, being featured in as early as the 1898 catalog .
The Flyer and its ladies model Flyer S are classically sprung saddles for long distance trekking and touring. It is directly descending from the B66 Champion, first featured in the 1927 catalogue. Sharing the same leather tops of the B17 models, they combine the comfort of these popular models with the extra suspension granted by two rear springs.

What customers say about "Key Specs"
Brooks B17 Standard Steel Saddle
- I rode 60 miles on the first day and it was comfortable as expected. It's only going to get better with each ride.
- I can feel it flex underneath me and provide some amount of cushion from the road, but not so much that it feels too squishy or robs me of pedaling energy.
- Second B17 after the first bike and saddle were stolen, super comfortable for me, long touring rides, gets better with age
- Once I hit about 300 miles, it was magic! I've now got about 2000 miles on it now, and I'll never ever run any other seat again. It is simply amazing, 70 mile rides are nothing!
- Excellent, easily the most comfortable bike seat I've ever owned. Started good and is only getting better as it breaks in.
Brooks Flyer Bicycle Saddle (Men's)
- I don't have many miles on my Flyer yet, and it definitely isn't fully broken in yet. Still, it is already very comfortable and will only get better with time.
- The saddle is very smooth/slick but a couple adjustments to the nose height/angle and I quit sliding forward.
- The saddle seems to disappear under me when I ride it and I rarely notice or think about it on that bike, I take this as a good thing and that I am on the right track.
- So after 200 miles, I'm happy and will probably stick with it. It seems to be getting increasingly comfortable.
- Using the smooth seat and wearing shorts composed of man-made materials can result in a little too much movement in the saddle to the point of feeling slippery

What customers say about "Features"
Brooks B17 Standard Steel Saddle
- I have always heard these saddles were the most comfortable so I took the risk and IT WAS THE GREATEST CHOICE OF MY LIFE!
- My first ride was 4 miles of pure comfort, and each subsequent one has gotten longer and are equally comfortable.
- Don't let the fact that it is hard as rock out of the box fool you, it really is a superb seat!
- But let me tell you I am a 5'2" female weighing in about 125 measley pounds and it only took 4 rides (roughly 50 miles) before it started feeling cushy!!
- The saddle is better and more comfortable than I expected. It's important to buy a cover if you're going to be in you're going to be in wet conditions.
Brooks Flyer Bicycle Saddle (Men's)
- As others have said the springs are stiff but they do smooth out the hard jolts to the posterior when you hit and unexpected pot hole.
- The springs really do help a lot. Not mushy at all, but you can definetly feel it taking up the shock of big bumps.
- This is a beautiful bike saddle.
- The leather takes a long time to soften up.
- The springs do add a great deal of weight to the seat and thus to the bike overall, and it is noticeable when lifting the back end of the bike.
