Range

Due to the Dect 6.0+ technology implementation, this cordless phone boasts a reliable signal reception and high broadcast quality at the distance from the base unit of up to 150 feet. One of the main advantages of this standard's use is a conflict-free interaction of the device with the Wi-Fi networks that prevents the interference with the cordless phone's operation.

Handset Front Side

This Panasonic digital cordless telephone is equipped with a high-contrast 1.8-inch (103 x 65 pixels) display with a white, bright backlight. The handset display has 4 lines to output information. The base unit has a 2.5-inch monochrome (103x39 pixels) two-line backlit display for displaying the information. Due to the soft-touch technology, used to produce this phone, the keys are all soft, incredibly smooth and pleasant to the touch. The only drawback you may find with this model is the lightning of the keypad. It's backlit along the perimeter. While it's perfectly okey during a daytime, you may struggle to hit the right keys in the pitch darkness.

Functions

This Panasonic dual-screen cordless telephone system (1 handset screen, 1 base unit screen) is rich in functionality. It comes with an answering machine that's able to record an 18-minutes long message. With Panasoic cordless phones, KX-TG7875S cordless phone is one of the best. Caller id, a speakerphone, a Handset locator, Call sharing, redial and speed dial, and more is what you may get with this phone. But better than that is its multifunctional and unversal base unit, suitable for charging both, home phone handset and a mobile phone. You will also be able to connect your mobile phone to the home unit via Bluetooth due to the Link2Cell technology.

Battery Life

The battery life of this dual-screen cordless telephone system will surely impress you. Once charged, it will incontinuosly work for up to 10 hours and 8 days in standby mode. Panasonic DECT 6.0 cordless telephone is powered with NI-MH batteries (standard AAA size). In order to use the whole capacity of the phone, you'll need to completely discharge it first. After discharge, you'll need to charge it once again. Such calibration will considerably prolong the battery life for the next use.

Range

This digital cordless phone by Uniden can operate at the distance of 150 feet from the base unit indoors and at even larger distance outdoors. The device has the state-of-the-art DECT 6.0 technology implemented, which makes this phone immune to the interference from other radio equipment and allows to maintain the clear sound even when used in a further range from the base unit.

Handset Front Side

The combination of a large, high-contrast LCD screen, a bright orange backlight and oval-shaped transparent keys makes this cordless telephone one of the most convenient in use. At any time of the day, you can pick up the phone and easily read the screen. The keys are also very pleasant to the touch. They are soft and nicely arranged just like the ones on the 2-line cordless telephone model by this vendor.

Functions

This top-tier model features a wide range of functions and capabilities. The list includes an answering machine with an option to record and save messages, a waiting indicator, a phonebook, capable of holding up to 100 numbers and name entries, a caller ID, a hold call function and more. It's a perfect phone for a big family who love talking.

Battery Life

Despite rich functionality, the battery life of this phone is rather average. When incontinuosly used for making calls, it can work for about 7 hours without recharging. In standby mode it will last over 7 days. Still, all other features considered, Uniden cordless phone demonstrates decent performance, absolutely worthy attention.

Convenient Communication in Your House

One of the most convenient features, which this cordless phone is equipped with is the Push-to-Talk feature. The feature enables you to communicate with other handsets via an internal communication system. The Push-to-Talk feature is very handy as it can fully substantiate your intercom system and dramatically reduce the number of communication devices in your house. Besides you can quickly reach your family members and relatives in the next room by pushing the Push to Talk (PTT) button on your VTech cordless phone. When using this feature two persons can communicate, though you should keep in mind that you need to release the Push to Talk button to be able to hear the conversation partner’s response. Disabling the PTT feature can be easily done in the display menu of a primary handset.

The VTech LS6425-3 model is one of the best cordless telephones for your house in terms of the summary of its functions. The capability of adding up to 12 handsets to the base unit will be appreciated by those who plan to use the device in the office or another working environment. You can always rely on a high-quality connection and communication comfort provided by this digital cordless telephone.

Invention of Telephone

The 19th century saw numerous attempts of creating a unique device, which would enable its users to exchange voice messages over a distance. Nowadays many people still consider Alexander Graham Bell the inventor of the telephone, which is not true. In fact, Bell obtained a patent in 1876 for his invention, which he called "apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically" in the USA. Bell’s device allowed transmitting and receiving a voice signal alternately with calling out a target person with a whistle. It was only a few years after that Bell’s colleague T. Watson invented a telephone ringing device. Graham Bell’s early telephone had an operation range within 500 meters. Though the most interesting fact is that already 16 years before Bell’s patent another researcher of Italian origin named Antonio Meucci demonstrated a device, which enabled a wired transmission of a voice signal. Meucci called his device "telectrophon". Though due to a large financial challenge he was facing Antonio submitted the corresponding application to the United States Patent and Trademark Office only in 1871 and numerous financial hardships prevented the patent from registration with the patent getting void in 1873. That is why Alexander Bell was considered a person who invented the telephone for a long time, and only on July 11, 2002, the Congress of the USA established Antonio Meucci’s right to be the inventor of telephone technology in resolution No239. Unfortunately, Antonio himself has not received universal recognition in his lifetime and died in poverty.

This entry level cordless telephone is introduced to the market by Motorola. Despite its simplicity the model has modern technologies implemented such as up-to-date DECT 6.0 digital communication standard, the device operates at a frequency of 1.9 GHz and provides a reliable signal reception from the base station even at a distance of 160 feet.

Handset Front Side

Bright, 4-line 1.3" display with orange backlight fits harmoniously into the compact case of this cordless phone and remains readable even in the bright sunlight. The classic style rectangular-shaped keys with rounded corners are made of an opaque material. The figures printed on the keypad are backlit directly, which makes them easily readable in the darkness.

Functions

This cordless phone by Motorola has a basic set of functions. This set includes the built-in 30-entries phonebook, caller ID (information on the last 30 calls), ringtone customization with 10 user-selectable ringtones, a handset speakerphone. The device can be expanded by use of 5 handsets, connected to a single base unit at a time.

Range

Due to Dect 6.0 technology, VTech cordless phone will not let any household or radio-operated devices interfere and distort the signal quality. Compared to most other phones in the review, the operating range of this unit is a bit smaller and measured up to 130 feet from the base set, yet, it's good enough for small offices and apartments.

Handset Front Side

This DECT 6.0 cordless phone is equipped with a 3-line 1.3" display with the green backlighting. The brightness and contrast of the display are not very high, so when exposed to a direct sunlight, the display may fade and become difficult to read. The keypad is made of a soft rubberized material and has the entire keys backlighting, which is very convenient if you want to dial a number in the dark.

Functions

This digital cordless telephone lacks an answering machine, but it does offer a great lot of other useful features such as Caller ID, 30 Name and Number Phonebook, the list of calls support and the call waiting. Unfortunately, the phone doesn't have a speakerphone, which means that you won't be able to arrange group conversations and talk on a phone with hands busy, but on a whole, when price and quality considered, it's a very decent cordless phone to go for.

Battery Life

An obvious advantage of this phone is its extensive battery life. Among the other DECT 6.0 cordless telephones in our review, this one is recognized as one with the longest life-term. In talking mode the battery will work for about 12 hours and over 7 days in standby mode. As the phone uses a lithium-battery, you will have to compeltelly drain it out once in a while. This is important with regards to battery life extention in a time course.

What is a Cordless Telephone

Cordless telephones have replaced the conventional ones and became deservedly popular with the consumers. Cordless phones are more functional and convenient to use, besides they meet modern day requirements. Indeed, sharing the same operation principle with conventional wire phones, the digital cordless telephones have obvious advantages: they are constantly on hand, they ensure more mobility around the house, they let you freely move from one room to another with you still talking on the phone. In the following review, we've picked the 5 best cordless telephones and shared some useful tips on how to make the right choice.

If you want to use your telephone for the business purposes, which imply the document reception and sending then you might want to see out Fax Machines review.

What Features to Compare

Cordless phones are way more convenient in use than corded analogs due to their portability. With a cordless phone, you don't need to stay close to the base unit and can freely move around the house with a phone on. However, before you're ready to order a phone, make sure to consider the Range it's going to work in. Different models work in a different frequency range. The higher the frequency is, the higher the range will be. This is where we advise you to look for a telephone with the frequency range of at least 1900 MHz, that's the optimal frequency range for 130-150 feet radius (5,000 feet is the maximum theoretical radius for the open space with no internal walls or obstacles). Any possible interference that may distort the signal and thus dramatically reduce the Range from the theoretical maximum is not usually specified.

Another important feature to pay attention to when looking for a cordless phone is Handset front side configuration. Here you'll get information on the display and keypad parameters. If you plan to buy a digital cordless telephone, you will surely want to have a good display to be able to track calls, battery charge and all other things that may be of importance to you. The phone screens vary in the size and the number of lines. The keypad is also important since you're going to use it all the time to make phone calls. Some are made of plastic while others can be rubberized and soft. Consider the design of the phone. It should fit your hand and ensure maximum comfort during the use.

Functions is another criterion in our cordless telephone review that we'd like to draw your attention to. Apart from routine call phones, some models offer the following bundle of functions:

  • Caller ID - identifies the caller’s number before user’s lifting the handset;
  • Redial - multiple automatic redial until the access to the free line is granted.
  • Speakerphone - you will hear a caller through the built-in speaker. It is convenient to use when you have your hands busy or you want other people to hear the conversation;
  • Incoming/outgoing calls log - saves the last dialed / received numbers (10 - 2000, depending on the model);
  • Conference call - interconnects two incoming lines for the communication;
  • Digital answering machine - records the incoming calls (up to 2 hours) with the notification that a subscriber is unable to answer the call at the moment.

In conclusion, you may also want to consider the Battery Life. If you love talking on the phone for hours, you should look for a phone that would work on a single charge for at least a few days. In standby mode, most modern phones boast 100 hours and more battery life.
