About It
The PodClip is a crowdfunding Kickstarter project for the clip that will allow you to conveniently carry your AirPod case. The reason for creating such a product is because when AirPods were first introduced, people started to ask questions about the convenience of wearing and carrying them around. The raised questions were both about wireless headphones and a charging case as well.
Almost instantly, several companies began working on the additional gadgets like the straps for the AirPods and small carrying purses for the case. However, all of them discredit the whole concept of the earphones being wireless and the docking station having a polished and minimalistic design.
Creating the Solution
Sam Yaghoubi from Chandler, AZ has created the solution that will satisfy anyone who doesn’t want to sacrifice the Apple’s style for the functionality. Instead of hiding the AirPods charging case away, you can always have it at hand by using a small clip that firmly holds the case. The PodClip is made of a single-piece aluminum billet, that can be slightly adjusted to be securely strapped to either thin fabric of pants pocket or a thick leather belt. That way, you can always access your earphones to make a quick call or just listen to your music.
Hold Me Tender
As some might point out: why even bother buying it when you can make a hand-made paperclip? The answer is quite simple. The PodClip features a polished surface with rounded edges, that gently, but securely wraps around the headphones case. Also, it leaves no scratching marks on the white plastic when you slip it on and off. Finally, it looks like an integral part of the case design without making it bulky or less Apple-ish.
The adjustable grip also enables you to safely wear it on you without the fear of the case slipping off the clip. Conveniently, the clip is attached to the case horizontally, so it doesn’t block the lid or a charging port, allowing you to easily check the status light inside the case or get access to the AirPods inside.
From Concept to Reality
The primary target audience is, of course, people with AirPods who need a handy way to carry the AirPods case around. The prototype pictures show the PodClips in black and polished aluminum finishes. However, there’s no further info about the other color options yet. The campaign will last till the 4th of April with the ETA delivery date planned for May 2017.
The estimated retail price will be around $24 USD, but the Kickstarter backers are promised to get a single piece for pledging $16 and 2 PodClips for $25 or more. The whole design seems to be approved and tested. Therefore, all that is needed to turn this concept into reality is your support to get the funding for the CNC machine time and the materials to produce it.
