DEWALT D26950
Extend Your Reach
Although a mini heating gun seems like the kind of appliance you could call portable, in practice, many of them are restrained by the too-short power cords. And even those models where the manufacturer deigned to include a longer cable often have shoddy cord quality. Thankfully, neither of these rings true for the excellent DEWALT D26950.
This model has a 10-ft power cord so you can stretch it pretty far without worrying about mobility. It’s going to be particularly useful for work outside or in apartments and houses that haven’t been finished yet and might lack power outlets in the convenient spots. And don’t worry about tugging too hard on the cable by accident as it has a protective casing to prevent tearing and other damage.
Now, we’ve stressed the importance of safety before but rarely has it been as important as with this model. As the DEWALT D26950 offers adjustable heat in the range of 120°F - 1100°F, you can easily reach a level that’s dangerous for humans. Sadly, the body of the device takes on some of that high temperature so you don’t want to be touching it during use. Either keep gripping the dual handle or, at least, wear some protective gear to avoid burns.
Still, we can’t fault the DEWALT D26950 for being too powerful as this 1550 W tool will help you weld, solder, and shrink wrapping to streamline your DIY projects. With a wide temperature range and an ergonomic design, this is a top-tier power tool and the best heat gun for any worker, professional or amateur.

PORTER-CABLE PC1500HG
Take Your Time
A master of their work knows that sometimes it’s worth taking things slow, especially when it comes to operating power tools. Luckily, the PORTER-CABLE PC1500HG is designed with exactly that in mind.
The gun has not only built-in temperature controls, which let you choose the heat in the range of 120°F - 1150°F, but also a speed selector. That way you can keep the fan whirring quietly as you do precision work or set it at high speed and do quick tasks such as stripping wallpaper or drying paint. Do note that the high speed setting makes the fan buzz pretty loudly which might get annoying if you plan on running it for a while. You could just set the PORTER-CABLE PC15000HG on its kickstand, though, aim it at the wallpaper or paint and walk away while the device does its job.
This is certainly a heavy-duty model with 1500 W of power and high heat levels so it’s more than fit for professional work at construction sites. Just make sure you can maneuver easily as the 6-ft power cord might not always be enough. It’s a problem solved easily enough by an extension cord, though. What's more important is the excellent cooling system here that keeps the body of the device from getting dangerously hot. That way you won't burn your fingers by accident.
All in all, the PORTER-CABLE PC1500HG might not be perfect but what is? This model has the benefit of the additional speed selector and high heat levels, making it one of the best heat gun models for versatile construction work.
Genesis GHG1500A
Aim to Create
Looking to do some high-precision work with your heat gun and worry that heavy-duty models will simply ruin the project? It’s a sensible concern since not all models are made for delicate operation. But there are guns designed specifically for careful work such as the Genesis GHG1500A.
This gun comes with 4 special nozzles that help control the hot air flow. You can use one that keeps the flow narrow and precise or use a larger nozzle for occasions when you just need to get the job done quickly. Each nozzle is made of heat-resistant metal so they won’t get deformed even if you use them frequently.
While the Genesis GHG1500A is certainly a well-made model and a powerful one (oof, 1500 W is more than enough for some heavy-duty long-term use), it does have its shortcomings. Namely, it seems like the paint used to coat the body of the gun has a pretty nasty odor. While it doesn’t really affect the quality of the work done, it can be annoying. Also, the restriction of temperature choices to just two is a bit of a bummer and definitely colors our overall impression.
When all is said and done, we’d definitely call the Genesis GHG1500A a great model for amateurs and home use but its technical restrictions might disappoint professionals. Still, a high-quality choice for DIY projects.
Wagner Furno 300
Ain't a Chore
Working with power tools can be rewarding but we’re not going to pretend like it’s not hard and tiring. Still, you can alleviate the strain somewhat by getting a lightweight tool with an ergonomic design. And that’s exactly why we recommend the Wagner Furno 300.
It weighs just 1.46 lbs and is thus easier to hold for longer intervals. But there’s more as the handle here is easy to grip and hold tight. And even when your hand does get tired, you can simply rest the gun on its kickstand on any surface as it keeps blowing air.
Now, we do have to note that this isn’t exactly a heavy-duty or versatile model as it operates on just 1200 W and has only 2 temperature settings, though both of them are pretty high. It’s great for tasks that need to be done quickly and require a lot of heat, such as stripping wallpaper, clearing rust, and getting paint and adhesives dry. Switching between 750°F / 1100°F, you’ll be able to either do the task quickly or take your time and make sure things go smoothly.
In the end, we admit that the Wagner Furno 300 has its flaws but it also has some very unique advantages that you simply can’t get anywhere else. So if you want a high-quality tool that will make tough work easier on you, look no further than this small and affordable model.

ProTect AH001A
Carry the Load
Having a convenient way to move your tools around and take them with you to a worksite can be essential, especially for smaller items that might break in transit. That is why a carrying case can be a vital bonus and, what do you know, we found a model that comes with one! The ProTect AH001A is paired with a set of useful accessories and, yes, chief among them is the sturdy plastic case. It has space not only for the gun itself but also for the 2 nozzles and 2 scrapers that you get with the purchase.
Speaking of which, the nozzles will come in handy for more precise work and help control the airflow. Meanwhile, the scrapers are an indispensable tool for scraping off old wallpaper or getting rid of adhesive traces. Just be careful to affix the nozzles properly as users have noted that they don’t always fit snugly right away.
Other than that, though, there’s little to complain about thanks to the excellent 1500 W power level. Our only other complaint is the restriction of temperature choices to two but that’s not a big deal as the levels are different enough yet sufficiently high to work on any material.
In all, the ProTect AH001A is an excellent and budget-friendly choice, a total bargain for those that want a high-quality portable tool.

What Is a Heat Gun?
While its name may seem pretty self-explanatory, there is a bit more to knowing what a heat gun is and when you can use it for craft purposes. This small tool is akin to a hair dryer in that it uses hot air to work but the temperatures are, of course, incomparable. A heavy-duty model will easily reach up to 900°F and above, which means you shouldn’t be using one of these on your locks any time soon. Instead, you can take advantage of this device’s power to strip paint, shrink wrap materials, weld plastic, thaw frozen objects (just make sure they won’t be melted by the hot air), and even dry out paint and glue.
Using such a tool requires caution, of course, as the electric device easily reaches temperatures that are dangerous to humans. Thankfully, the sleek design of these tools helps practice caution as the heat gun resembles, well, a gun. You can hold onto the handle and trigger while you work and, if your model is well-made without any faults, the body itself shouldn’t get too hot either. It might still be prudent to wear a pair of gloves for protection though.
And while you’re picking out this gun, perhaps you’ll want to look into getting a staple gun or a rivet gun as well, to help finish off any DIY projects you have at home.
