What customers say about "Key Specs"
Smittybilt X20 (98510) Waterproof Synthetic Rope Winch
- Excellent winch , love it completely. Did replace the hook with a heavy TMJ self locking hook which was a great addition. Nothing wrong with the crossbar support on this winch, need to take care to not abuse it allowing cable to pile up in one area that will exceed the clearances.
- My Jeep Cherokee was fully loaded with tools, spare, and aftermarket 3/16" bumpers front and rear (~4k lbs).
- Great looking product but assembly was somewhat difficult. The control module that sits on top is cumbersome to mount and mounting bolts were not long enough.
- The winch has performed flawlessly and has plenty of power for my 2-door Jeep JK.
- Mounted with a rough country hidden mount for F150. Fit fine. Not heavy, maybe 40 lbs. Only pulled a jeep across a lot to tighten rope but was effortless.
Smittybilt XRC (97495) Winch
- I highly recommend the synthetic rope for safety reasons. Well worth the money. Oh, and the winch is waterproof. Bonus.
- It's less geared down so it winds in faster, but is still rated at 9500 pounds. With the parking brake on, I am able to winch my 4500 pound Dodge Durango and skid the back tires on concrete with ease. I also purchased a snatch block, so I can double the pulling power if needed.
- The winch performs perfectly even with as heavy my truck is and once had my trailer with 2 dirt bikes, a Polaris Ace 550 and loads of camping gear.
- Faster than normal cable retrieve, but the more weight you put on it, it gears down and has more than enough grunt to do the job. It ain't Warn, but it works and does what I need it to do.
- 7/16" synthetic rope. I will not use wire rope for safety and weight reasons. Possible abrasion of the synthetic rope is not an issue for me.

What customers say about "Features"
Smittybilt X20 (98510) Waterproof Synthetic Rope Winch
- The wireless remote is super convenient, and is included in the original purchase price, not an add on.
- The speed is great - not painfully slow, and not so fast you can't control it.
- The remote control works flawlessly. I did have a small problem with the screw that hold the winch cable to the drum (it came off) ....
- Free spool is almost too smooth as there is no apparent resistance which allows birdcaging if tightly spooled cable is hand pulled without the drum braking
- WInch runs very cool. Brake is not in the winch drum so melting a line should be just about impossible.
Smittybilt XRC (97495) Winch
- Magnet in control handle is a nice feature. Comes with a roller fairlead which some other companies / winches sell separate.
- The motor side does get hotter than my XRC-10 (~1 HP more motor + less gear reduction for faster line speed + near the same rated pull strength = more amperage = more heat), which stayed surprisingly cool, but it seems to work well.
- Efficient 6.6 HP motor with 193:1 gear ratio for relatively quick recovery speeds
- Very Nice Unit! They Updated alot of features! Shifting Spool into natural is effortless! For the price I paid you can't find a better winch!
- Handle to switch from free spooling to "in" is sometimes hard to move; you have to click to wind it in a little to get to the spot where it can be changed.
- The winch is very heavy, so be careful when moving the box around.
