Stylish Rainwear Is Not a Myth
No doubt, a common rain gear can keep you dry even when it showers outside, but at the same time, it has almost no difference from the fisherman’s clothes. Thus, wearing a usual rainproof apparel in a big city, you may surely look out of your element. Also, they are not very comfortable to ride a bike in.
During her travel to Japan, Emma Jorn was partially inspired by the Tokyo citizens and their grace, as they maneuver in the crowd wearing their rainproof apparels. She came up with the idea of making the bike-friendly, weather-proof, and, above all, fashionable clothes for urban lifestyle. The Japanese culture can also be traced in the brand’s name, as Takaokami is the Japanese dragon-god of rain.
Friendly Outfit
In order to get the money for the clothing production, Emma started a crowdfunding Kickstarter project in 2015, offering the backers different pledge options with various rewards. The lineup included a jacket, skirt, hat, and the Treien. The last one is a one-size-fits-all short poncho with a unique concept. It features 3 neck holes with hoods, designed to cover you and 2 more of your friends from the rain on a bus stop or while walking together, which actually sounds and looks like a lot of fun.
Best Clothing for Bike Commuters
If you have ever ridden a bike in the rain, then, you know that your eyes and back usually get waterlogged first. Therefore, the Rain Hat may interest you with its both practical and stylish design. Its wide brims are made of stiff material, so you could shape them in order to actually wear it while cycling. The hat also offers an unusually long shade to protect your back and shoulders from the waterdrops. Also, it just looks chic.
Waterproof and Splendor
The stylish Rain Skirt is longer at the front in order to cover your legs during cycling in rainy weather. Both a skirt and the Rain Jacket have stretches in the waist area to narrow it down and prevent water from getting under your clothes. The jacket also features large pockets and a hood that comes out from inside the collar. All items are made with waterproof, breathable fabric and taped seams.
From Concept to Realization
The project was met with a numerous positive feedback. Therefore, by the end of the campaign, Emma Jorn has successfully gathered over 190,000 DDK (approx. $27,600 at the time) from exactly 249 backers. So, the clothes are already available for purchase.
Concluding, if you love cycling and you look for a practical yet stylish rain gear, the Takaokami clothes might be exactly what you need. Currently, Emma Jorn works in a collaboration with another famous rainwear designer - Ilse Jacobsen Hornbæk. Together, they bring even more ideas into life. For instance, their store sells branded Rain Coats and Rain Dresses as well.
