Excellent Blu-Ray Player

DVDs aren't just playable in a standard DVD player. Blu-Ray, the disc technology that ended up becoming the standard for physical media after DVDs, was made from the beginning to be backwards compatible with the DVD standard, thus rendering all Blu-Ray players capable of playing DVDs. But why review a Blu-Ray player as a DVD player? Because this particular model comes in at a price point that is not much beyond what you will find for most standard DVD players.

The G BP350 Blu-ray Disc & DVD Player is a premium model for those who want high-quality video and sound from their media player. Featuring the latest in physical media playback technology, you get a fully up-to-date Blu-Ray and DVD player that is capable of playing all of your back library of DVDs while helping to make them look as modern as possible.

Of course, like many other DVD players out there, this device is capable of more than just basic playback functionality. For example, the device includes support for a wide range of media files that can be played through the USB port. In addition, you can always easily connect your LG Smart Hi-Fi compatible device to your network via Wi-Fi to send music from a CD or USB stick to your LG Music Flow speakers for a truly dynamic audio experience.

DVD Video At Nearly Blu-Ray Quality

The video quality that one gets from most Blu-Ray players is exceptional, as Blu-ray Disc playback delivers exceptional Full HD 1080p video performance. But what about your DVDs? If the advance of technology has taught us anything, it is that older media tends to look less than spectacular on newer playback devices. Fortunately, that won't be the case here. The included DVD upscaling technology scales video playback to 1080p, which makes this media almost as sharp as Blu-Ray content. In fact, you'll be amazed at just how much better your DVDs look when playing them through this player on your 1080p television. You'll often not notice much of a difference in video quality between a well-mastered DVD and a Blu-Ray disc.

There's much more to this player than just physical media playback. The player includes Smart functionality that gives you access to many of the most popular streaming services out there, including Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus, and many others. This will be a great feature for those who either don't have a Smart TV, or find that their current Smart TV's functionality leaves a bit to be desired. Either way, anyone looking to get the best out of their DVD collection will find this Blu-Ray and DVD player to be an excellent choice.

Solid Up-Conversion

The Panasonic HDMI DVD player is relatively basic when it comes to functionality. At the same time, the device does an excellent job and we don't have much to complain about here.

Sure, the slim and lightweight unit will require especially careful attention. On the bright side, the device is, again, slim and lightweight. Measuring 8 x 12.2 x 1.5 inches, the player basically enables you to find enough space for the device pretty much anywhere. Its ~2.5-pound weight will let you easily lift this unit and move when necessary.

As far as compatibility goes, the player's as good as these DVD players get. It will play literally all disc formats that are played around the world. Meanwhile, the up-conversion tech ensures high precision of pixels by correcting the brightness of media content and smoothening up all little irregularities of the image. It also has the capability to playback most burnt content, including MP3 and JPEG files.

As far as we can tell, most customers who have used a different model in the past are quite impressed with its performance and are happy to have bought it for such an affordable price.

USB Too

This is a simple and relatively cheap DVD player, however, when it comes to the quality of video streaming, it firmly outperforms most of the similar players within the same price range. For whatever TV screen you’ve got at home, the device will have no issues playing back high-definition videos in 1920 x 1080p Full HD quality. Sure, people love the model's compact size and all. But one could argue that the best part here is the model's automatic shut-off function that will turn the unit off after some time when it’s been out of use.

The Panasonic DVD-S700 comes equipped with an HDMI-port that ensures high throughput, multi-channel transmission of audio and video. A DVD player paired with an HDMI port hardly needs any additional jacks for the use of other cables.

This makes most modern DVD players stand out from other analog devices - the HDMI port is equally good for high-speed cables and those that you’ve already got. At the same time, you'll be able to view media content from USB flash drives, which is nice considering that these budget players rarely give you that option.

Finally, the player is also dustproof, so you'll be able to place the device on dust-prone shelves without worrying about any DVD/CD performance issues coming from dust buildup.

High-Quality Build

When it comes to consumer electronics that belong in an entertainment center, quality is important. Since these devices tend to get used quite often, it is important for them to be both durable and reliable. In addition, having a device that is easy to use and can be setup and used without any fuss is essential. With the ELECTCOM PRO DVD3621 DVD Player, you get all of the above. This is an easy-to-use DVD player that is made of high-quality and durable materials, so you don't have to worry about drops or scratches affecting the operation of the device. Likewise, you can be assured of it lasting for a long time without needing to be replaced.

As mentioned before, this DVD player is easy to setup and use. It features a quick setup via remote that allows you to get it up and ready to go in just a few moments after you have plugged it in. On top of that, those who have a cramped entertainment center or little available space around their TV won't have to worry about finding a place for this DVD player. The device takes up very little space, so it is suitable for small spaces, letting you put it anywhere that is most convenient while also still allowing free access to the player for changing out DVDs.

Built-In Progressive Scan and USB Functionality

All of the above will probably sound great to most people, but what is really important about any DVD player is the quality of its DVD playback. We're quite happy to say that those who are sticklers about this won't find anything to complain about here. This DVD player features progressive scan and upscaling technology that makes all of your DVDs look fabulous on any 1080p television. You won't have to worry about the video looking blurred or distorted, as all images should appear sharp and detailed, giving you nearly full HD quality from your DVD collection. Just be aware that the upscaling and progressive scan features require the DVD player to be connected via an HDMI cable.

It is not just DVDs that will be the primary benefactor of this player. The device includes a USB port that allows you to playback both audio and video media files on your TV in all of their glory. The player supports many of the most commonly used file formats for audio and video media files, so you can do everything from watching downloaded Internet content to using your TV to display your favorite photos from your latest vacation. Most burnable CD and DVD media types are also supported, so those who have older catalogs of burned DVDs and CDs should be able to make full use of them as well. If you're looking for a solid, easy to use DVD player that is guaranteed to hold up well over time, then this model deserves a close look.

Sharp and Detailed Images

For one of the most modestly priced options on the market, the Sony DVPSR210P actually has quite a lot going for it. Now, this is a DVD player that will cost you about 20 bucks (give or take), so there are some obvious limitations. Unfortunately, it doesn't support the upscaling feature.

Of course, as most of us know from experience, it isn't the most reliable feature to begin with, often bordering on gimmicky. It doesn't really replicate the 1080p Full HD experience as much as they'll have you believe, but it's still a nice option to have nonetheless.

On top of that, the model does not incorporate an HDMI port, which is a real shame since the latter would have given the device that quality multi-channel transmission of both audio and video that you want from your player. But, again, that's to be expected from a budget model.

Now, we did say that the player actually has quite a lot going for it, so let's move on that. First, we would like to point out the Custom Picture Mode. Using the latter, you will be able to improve sharpness and noticeably increase the contrast and the color range. This way, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy a much deeper and more detailed picture.

By the way, despite the fact that the model doesn't support the 1080 upscaling feature, it does come equipped with a surprisingly effective picture enhancing technology that will make the 720 x 576 resolution look almost as detailed as the 720p HD image.

Not too Bad for a Budget Player

Aside from everything we've said earlier, there isn't that much that makes this model different from your typical budget DVD player. The multi-brand remote is pretty nice as it can be used with a variety of different devices. The player supports multi-format DVD and CD media playback but, again, that's not something that can't be said about most of these players.

It is pretty compact, featuring 12.6 inches in width, 10 in length, and precisely 1.26 inches in height, so it won't take away too much of your space. The model supports the JPEG image format, so you'll be able to enjoy a slideshow playback with some MP3 music in the background if you ever feel so inclined. Aside from JPEG and MP3, the device works with MPEG-4, WMA, AAC, and LPCM, more or less your usual lineup of audio and video formats for a budget DVD player.

In short, considering the price tag that it comes with, the Sony DVPSR210P is a pretty damn impressive player. On top of everything else, the model features a variety of playback options, including fast playback with sound as well as the slow playback with sound. At your disposal, you'll have high-speed search, instant replay, instant advance, and just about everything you could ask out of a budget DVD player.

Compact Budget DVD Player

Considering that DVDs are considered to be pretty old media nowadays, anyone who is looking to replace an old DVD player will most likely want to look for some of the cheapest options possible. Of course, there is always the old adage about getting what you pay for, but that isn't necessarily a universal truth. Sometimes it is quite possible to find a device like the Craig Electronics CVD401a Compact HDMI DVD Player that gives you much better quality than what you're expecting while still coming in at a very affordable price.

To describe this device in a very simplified manner, this is a budget DVD player that has both upscaling and progressive scan capabilities. What this means for you is that your 1080p television will be able to display your DVDs in much higher quality than what you have seen before. Upscaling and progressive scan work hand-in-hand to scale up the resolution of DVD video to full HD resolution at 60 frames per second, giving your DVDs exceptional playback quality. Such high-quality video is only available when connected through an HDMI cable, although this is true of any and all media players. In addition, the device is made of quality materials despite its low price, so you don't have to look at this player as a simple "throwaway" option, even though it is priced as one.

Quick and Easy Operation

Although this is a relatively simple DVD player, there is still much to be said about it. This remote control DVD player makes watching movies, playing music and viewing pictures from your favorite CD easy and fast. The remote features clearly labeled buttons that will let you select the needed function in a minimal amount of time without having to hunt for it. It is convenient to install in the living room or in the bedroom due to its small size, with its overall footprint taking up only a little more space than a DVD box. In fact, you'll be hard-pressed to find a DVD player with a smaller footprint.

Just like with most other DVD players, this device is capable of doing more than just playing DVDs. This player supports the use of various burnable CD and DVD formats including DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R, and CD-RW, and allows for playback of video and audio files from burned discs.

Not everything is gravy here, though. In order to keep the costs down, it appears the manufacturer left out a few things from the package. For one, the 2 AAA batteries required for powering the remote are not included. The device includes an older A/V cable for connecting to older televisions but does not include an HDMI cable for connecting to HDTVs, so you will need to purchase your own separately. Considering the bargain basement price of this DVD player, though, these are but small complaints about an otherwise excellent device.

What Is a DVD Player?

A DVD player is a popular multimedia gadget that transmits video clips and movies on a TV screen through cable connection. Most modern DVD/BD players are capable of playing not only old disk formats, but also some newfangled multimedia files that would surely come to liking to true movie fans. Such DVD players are universal and multifunctional, and they greatly surpass their obsolete analogs. Those users who’d also like to access the Internet through their DVD player, should consider an idea of buying a smart console. With this little accessory, any typical TV will turn into a proper multifunctional station in a flash. Hopefully, our review of the best 5 DVD players should help you find the right device for your needs.

If you can’t imagine traveling without being able to watch sports events or your favorite TV series, take advantage of car DVD players, which can be mounted in headrests or unfold in front of you on a dashboard.

What Features to Compare

Formats

Modern DVD-players support all types of media storage drives and formats. Not only can they play standard CD and DVD-disks, they can also play back images and MP3 files. BD-players, for example, support all the same functionality, and a Blu-Ray feature. If you plan to watch movies on a bigger screen with a large diagonal and you don’t want to sacrifice the quality of the image, it’s definitely the choice for you. However, those customers who have used to watching films on a small TV with standard resolution may easily opt for a regular DVD-player.

Resolution

The foremost thing to consider when choosing a DVD-player is its resolution parameter. It directly affects the quality of an image. To decode a signal on a larger diagonal, a DVD player would need to have more CPU, this is where you can clearly see the difference between images that playback on small and big screens. The standard 1920x1080 resolution is the optimal choice for owners of large-screen TVs. For smaller TVs 720x480 should be a sufficient parameter.

Connectivity

We’d also like to draw your attention to connectivity options. Different DVD/BD-players have got a different number of video- and audio slots that more or less influence the quality of both, video playback and sound. For example, if you want to have high-quality 1920x1080 resolution and a multi-channel sound, you should consider buying a DVD-player equipped with HDMI jack. It will ensure that your sound and video are transmitted in a digital format. TV with smaller resolution would work well with SCART and Component. They are both designed to transmit a signal in an analog format. A great lot of DVD-players are also equipped with additional jacks for karaoke, one or two microphones and a USB media storage for viewing images and playing MP3s. Almost every BD-player has got a built-in Ethernet for easy access to the Internet (the required feature for downloading additional resources together with films). Another advantage of having Ethernet on a player is an option to quickly update your DVD player software online and watch new disk formats along with the old ones.
