The grooved surface enables secure gripping, making sure that the bats are able to hold themselves with ease. The wood has no scent and no netting that eventually wears. The instructions that come with the box also include interesting facts about bats.
The packaging is fairly shoddy.
Big Bat Box looks awesome, with its black finish and the brilliant bat symbol. Setting aesthetics aside, the box is durable and tough enough to survive harsh, rainy environments. Plus, the mounting hardware is shipped with the house.

If You Build It, They Will Come
Applewood Outdoor Premium Bat House looks sleek and polished, earning that "premium" part, appearance-wise at least. But appearance is not the only thing this product has going for it. Made from Western red cedar, the house is tough and sturdy as this cedar variety is naturally resistant against rot and insect damage, making sure that the structure remains intact even when faced with harsh outdoor environments.
While that's great and all, these advantages would be not worth much without making bats comfortable first and foremost. Luckily, that's not an issue here. The grooved interiors allow the bats to land and roost, while the narrow space inside makes the house nice and cozy, creating this comfy environment that's conducive towards heat retention.
Sometimes, bat houses can be troublesome/tiresome to install but, here, we have two pre-drilled holes burred into the landing board, this sturdy hanger on the top back, and three 2.5-inch exterior-grade deck screws, making the house able to accommodate different mounting options.
The only unaccommodating part about this product is that the construction is pretty heavy, so you might face some challenges mounting the house alone. Bar that, Applewood Outdoor Premium Bat House will last, hosting bats and keeping them comfortable while unlikely presenting considerable maintenance challenges down the road.

Paint It Red
The people behind Kenley Bat House designed and developed this model based upon multiple available research papers on bats' needs and preferences. That's how they were able to come up with these interior and exterior perches that let bats land and roost with ease. Before that though, what we have here is a relatively large box (measuring 15" x 9.2" x 3.2", not unlike most bat shelters) with two chambers, able to accommodate at least 20-30 bats. The two-room layout allows the house to form this grooved yet well-spaced inside roosting area. Moreover, the house adopts this rough platform and skerfs to enable easy landing.
Now, making bats comfortable is great, but bat houses are also supposed to be durable enough to survive and thrive outside, hence the handcrafted, high-quality cedar wood construction that will be able to keep rain and snow out and last years since cedar beats rot and avoids decay naturally. Plus, sporting this dark red paintwork, the model makes bats associate the house with warmth and privacy.
In closing, setting aside the flimsy hook that we would recommend replacing or, at the very least, reinforcing, you can trust Kenley Bat House to attract bats and entice them to stay.

Comfy Little Box
What we like about INCLY Bat House (and there's more than one thing to like about this product) is that the house's shipped pre-assembled, so you do not have to put different boards and planks together, all you have to do is mount the house using the hardware that's also shipped with the box. The hanging hook at the back is pretty sturdy, so you can choose between different structures and objects, from trees and poles to most walls.
The people behind this product are claiming that the house provides ideal living conditions and the claim is, at the very least, not baseless, with the inside and the landing platform grooved to enable easy clinging, making sure that bats have no issues landing and climbing into the house. The house's quite narrow inside, not unlike most bat houses to improve its heat retention. Besides that, this comfy little box has been stained with dark red paint, making the surface resistant against the elements and attracting bats.
We'd recommend mounting this house pretty high though, not only due to the usual reasons but also because some edges here are quite sharp, so you'd want kids and pets to avoid injuring themselves. Even then, INCLY Bat House is an excellent product, durable and reliable but also roomy and comfy, so we can totally see bats choosing to roost there.

Making Batman Proud
Big Bat Box is an apt name, considering that it is able to fit around 70-75 bats, which is huge when you take into account that the box measures 15" x 12" x 4", more than comparable to most bat houses. Inside this box, you'll find two chambers, optimally sized not only to attract but also to accommodate bats. Finish-wise, you can choose between black and brown paintworks. We'd probably recommend going with the black one and totally not because the black one resembles something that Batman would put inside the Batcave, nuh-uh.
All in all, the product looks smooth and polished, setting aside the shoddy packaging which's pretty surprising considering that everything that's inside is anything but shoddy. We're fine with the trade-off though, beats the bat houses that are wrapped all nice but, when mounted outdoors, prove fragile and vulnerable to the elements. The opposite is the case with this bat box, constructed from Western red cedar wood to make the house tough, durable, and all but immune to rot and decay.
Without even mentioning that the surface inside is grooved to enable secure and reliable gripping, Big Bat Box climbs the bat house ranks, with its bold aesthetic, the awesome bat symbol, and weatherproof construction.
The Environment Won't Mind
Right off the bat (we're not even sorry this time), Woodlink Audubon Bat Shelter is probably the most eco-friendly and environmentally conscious option within this lineup because the house is constructed from reforested, kiln-dried red cedar wood, making the model not only more ecologically responsible but also resistant against moisture.
Besides that, this model's also an easy house to handle mounting-wise, with pre-drilled holes making the task that much less tedious and zinc-plated deck screws, resistant against rust and corrosion, making sure that the house will not fall down soon enough.
For the most part, this box looks pretty smooth, though might find cosmetic defects here and there. The company's logo is subtle and the bat symbol is a nice touch. Size-wise, the house measures 15" x 14.25" x 3.5", a little taller than most bat houses but about as narrow, so reducing heat dissipation. With one chamber, this box should be able to accommodate around 20 bats, with the landing platform constructed to aid landing and the grooves inside allowing the bats to cling when roosting.
Without going into unnecessary details, Woodlink Audubon Bat Shelter does not discriminate and will house most bats, from big browns to Yuma Myotis.
What Is a Bat House?
Mosquitos are the worst but they're hard to eliminate without using questionable methods involving chemicals and such. Instead, what you can do is mount these bat houses next to you. Most bat species live off insects, with one bat usually able to consume its own weight throughout one night. Needless to say, this diet makes these only flying mammals the most reliable allies when dealing with various insects, from mosquitoes and beetles to caterpillars that bite, sting, and damage crops and plants. Plus, many bat populations are facing extinction, so you're not only avoiding using chemicals but also helping these invaluable creatures survive.
These houses are not hard to mount and maintain, just remember to hang them around 13-20 feet high with direct sunlight. Bats are neat creatures, so you won't need to clean these boxes, even though the houses we're reviewing here are able to accommodate anywhere between 15 and 30 bats, with them going as high as 70+.
Bees and butterflies contribute to a healthy ecosystem too, so you might want to also consider these bee houses and butterfly houses.
